Homestead Dairy

Went into an SPCA thrift store today and saw 3 1/2 gallon glass milk jugs from the homestead dairy in Va. somewhere. They were $5 a piece, anyone know if they are worth picking up?

Nope. I have some. They are available at Earth Fare supermarket, filled with either regular or chocolate milk. I think the last time I bought them it was 5.99 or 6.99 a half gallon. And of course ya got to keep the bottle or bring it back for a couple bucks off your next purchase.

It depends upon whether or not you have a use for them.

If I needed one I would have paid that. Have a couple now that we use and would not sell them for 5. I need to find a place to get replacement caps

The ones sold locally here with milk in them have such a small neck/mouth on the bottles that cleaning them is a real pain....I much prefer 1/2 gallon mason jars. Ans $5 seems a bit pricey for them...I can get a 6 pack of mason jars for around $10.

Yup, these have the small neck as well. That's why mine are on display instead of in the fridge full of milk.

1/2 gallon widemouth jars here. Easy to clean. I think last time I ordered some it was 6 for $12 including the lids, from Ace Hardware. Had to special order them, but it was worth the wait.
