Fireplace Installation Height - Learn From My Mistake

if you haven't installed a fireplace yet this year and plan to here's how I did mine, the height, and it's a bummer

Fireplace Installation Height - Learn From My Mistake - Homesteading Questions

i thought you should make it at a height that's easy to load wood, i'm sure i read that somewhere, not a good idea

well now if there is no fan blowing the air down it doesn't heat as much below waist level because heat rises

How low can you / should you install a fireplace? shouldn't it be as low as possible to the floor to heat the most in the house? (if you don't care about bending to load it)

next summer I'll remove the earthbag/concrete platform and lower everything

Move it to the floor and just put and additional piece of pipe on it.

Install ceiling fans that have reverse rotation for the winter, bringing the heat from the ceiling down to the floor.

A platform does help with loading wood and viewing, but 10" is about the max, IMHO.

Here is our installation

Our wood stove upstairs is raised about like your's and it works fine. Maybe do you have a air leak or draft blowing cold air on your feet? Our stove sits on stone and the stone soaks up the heat. It is nice and warm. Good luck -

Another consideration is that the stove probably has a setback from the ceiling. If it's too high, it may be too close to the ceiling.
