I don't have any current data, but I saw in passing an article on high recall cars. They had Subaru on their list.
You might want to look for more on that.
Maybe it isn't about your model.
I wish you luck.
I used to have one.I loved it dearly.
I could go anywhere in it, includng over a mountain with no road into Canada and wander back across the border some hours later! What fun that car was!

In my world that's too much money for a car and 6 YEARS is way too long to finance it.

If I can't afford to pay cash, I can't afford it. That's my take on almost anything that doesn't make me money.

Bought '06 Lexus back in Mar for 1400. Its perfect, book value was 17, I think (slept since then). Have to be careful buying used, I know but if you look hard enuf, go to dealerships that are trustworthy (yeah, how are ya gonna know)
This was at a Nisson dealer in our town & they didn't want the Lexus there, Its soooo luxurious & drives like a dream.

Friend of mine has a Forrester, 10 years old, with a touch over 350,000 on it now and it is still going great! He says it has had VERY few problems. From what I've seen Subaru has been GREAt whenever it's been in for repairs (well, only once in the last 3 years)...he even gets a free car to drive while his is in the shop. He says it was cheap and dependable, loves the all-wheel drive. He lived in northern New Mexico, Colorado and Idaho with it, so has had it in some weather.

Early 1975 I convinced my buddy that a Toyota would do him better than the offerings from Detroit. His dad was very upset. Then the dad moved from town to his 57 acre 'property' where he had been building his 'retirement' home.

After one winter of parking at the bottom of his driveway and using an old willys jeep to get up the snow/ice covered driveway [almost a mile up the side of the hill and shaded] to the house; dad bought his first 4x4 Subaru. The next year he bought another and retired the Willys to off road only...

That is all his widow and family drive.

I had an '82 GL 4x2 wagon. The quality of the car was awesome. After a Datsun and Honda, the fit and finish and sound proofing were much better.

Sure they did have some goofy design & marketing ideas [and still do! Who would call an auto the 'B 9 Tribeca'?] and some of the parts were expensive, the car was a solid performer that gave me years of good service.

I agree. 6 year financing, not for me. Nothing on the payment plan for me, especially not a vehicle. How many years will it be before the car is worth what you owe on it?

Do you really need a 265+ hp car? How big a price drop to go w/ a lower model? I've ridden around in a WRX quite a bit (co worker had one) and it is a fun ride, a little stiff ride, but some nice a features. However, I'd wonder about the long term reliability of any turbo/supercharged engine. It seems more like a play thing than any real "work" vehicle.

If you're looking for gas mileage and a good hauler I'm sure there are ample choices in a 20-30kprice range over a WRX. I guess it depends on what your uses/goals are during the SIX LONG YEARS of $400/monthly (don't forget about the increased insurance) more like $500/monthly expenses... that's 36,000 for a car. Srsly, buy a used Subaru for $8k

My sister has one in Australia, hers is a few years older.
It is more of a performance car than the 'regular' Subaru models.

The WRX is the road rally sporty version, what about the Normally Aspirated version? They have had turbos for a long time though. You do have extra maintenance costs/ shorter oil change cycle from the turbo so that add more cost too!

I had a few speeding tickets w/ my '82, no turbo necessary for that!

.................I'm going to call my S.Farm agent monday AM and see what insurance will cost ! As far as longivity of the engine turbo system I think that the way I drive will dictate what kind of reliability I receive from the car over time . I take very good care of everything I own so I'm not worried . , thanks , fordy

I have a friend with a Turbo Talon (It's a Mitsubishi Eclipse with an American badge) that's got 200k on it. A turbo doesn't mean it'll die sooner provided you take care of it.

I bought a 2010 Forrester (non turbo) for a lot less than the price being asked for your WRX. It doesn't have the HP of the turbo version, but it gets me where I want to go fine. It's my understanding that the tubo gets a little less MPG, and I think it requires premium fuel (not positive about that).

The Forrester got me around the country on a 10K hiking/canoeing/camping road trip this past Summer. It pulled a pop up camper and got me down some roads I'm not sure my GMC 4x4 truck could have navigated. I've got 25K miles on the car, and its never been in for any warranty work. My MPG is usually around 27/28 with a 5 speed manual trannie.

Subaru just announced a major recall for 2012 models due to a problem with brake master cylinders. For whatever reason, the Forrester was not included in the recall.

DH has a 2005 Outback. Excellent car. The drive experience, fit and finish are comparable to a much more expensive car. Good in snow, and has needed nothing beyond the usual maintenance.

We hope to keep the car for many years, but when we need to replace it, we'll be very likely to buy another Subaru.
