Sprayer for whitewash?

We have an old dairy barn that has many layers of old whitewash from its former days. We've made whitewash using the recipe at:
http://fiascofarm.com/recipes/whitewash.html
Painting it by hand is a chore, and it's too messy to contemplate painting the ceiling.

Does anyone know what kind of spraying equipment can be used to spray whitewash? It's a fairly lumpy and somewhat corrosive mixture. I tried running it through a chemical pump-sprayer and it just clogged. I'm pretty sure it would clog a Wagner paint sprayer in a matter of seconds.

I have an air compressor -- is it likely that there's a sprayer that would work for this application? Doesn't anyone still spray whitewash anymore?

Thanks for the ideas!

I don't know what will work but I'll be watching to see if anyone has an answer. I do know that a regular heavy duty paint sprayer for house paint will NOT work. At least not with the normal nossle inplace. Tried it once and the nossle plugged after about 10 seconds of spraying. Ended up using big brushes. I do have some more I'd like to white wash and would love a way to spray it!

I use whitewash inside my chicken house & makes it brighter...I tried the hand sprayer & like you said,it kept clogging up so decided to roll it on with a paint roller...later read somewhere that you mix up the whitewash REALLY good one day then let it sit overnight then stir again & maybe water down the next day to use in a sprayer but have not tried that method yet....it said the lumps & clumps disappear by letting it sit overnight...

Sprayer

Thanks for the pointer to the ceiling texture sprayer! I couldn't find them for sale locally, so I guess I'll go ahead and buy one online.

You might be able to rent one if you will only need it once

The rental place here wanted $50/day for the setup. I bought one for $53 and plan to use it every year!

Thanks again for the pointer to this option.
