Blueberry wood safe to eat with?

My sons pruned one of our Highbush Blueberry Bushes and then made hand carved Chop Sticks from the wood. The Chop Sticks are beautiful and the wood really nice.

But - is it safe? Anyone know if wood from a Blueberry Bush is safe to eat with? It would seem like it should be OK but.....I tried to search it on the Internet and could not find anything about it.

Anyone else used Blue Berry wood?

I wouldn't worry about it. I'd use it. I use "wood utensils" all the time when I'm out backpacking, jsut whittle me a spoon when ever I need one for eating with lol

No, there are no splinters. The wood is actually lovely. The boys made several sets of Chop Sticks. Some with apple wood, a few Bamboo (native NC bamboo) and others from the Blueberry pruned wood.

Yesterday they stained the blueberry wood with blueberries from the freezer and it is really pretty. They stained some bamboo with cranberries and those are nice too.

It is a fun project for them and will make good holiday gifts.

Thanks.

I did not have the answer to your original question, but I had to say that I LOVE the idea! What an excellent project for your boys. I'm making a note of it... soon my younger two will be old enough to make some!

Also, do you have any pics to post?
