I think yours is a fox. Here's a shot of a KY coyote caught on our trail cam.

Okay..next question ..

Since it seems to be a fox , would a fox bother the cat ?

If the cat is safe , I will let it be ..I don't have any chickens..

Yes a fox will kill a cat.

A Gray Fox ususally isn't much larger than most cats though.
A Red Fox woould be more of a threat

It may also be a YOUNG Coyote.
It's really hard to say from just that one picture

Our cat loves his outside area and often loves to lay around on the porch..
I can try to have him in by dark but he sometimes can't be found.
Sorry but this critter is hanging too close to my house..he has to go..

I would think that is is pretty unlikely that a fox would kill your cat. Possible, but not probable. If you live where there are foxes than I'm sure you have raccoons and they have been known to kill cats as well.
If you have a dog around I would bet the fox will give your cat a wide berth. Other than that, bringing your cat in is a good bet. It would be hard to kill or trap every possible threat to him.

The fox should be a better mouser than the cat. If you don't want him, you might be able to scare him off with random noises and lights and a few shots at night. Personally, I think they are pretty neat animals to have around.

You can kill this one but that will only open its territory to another one or another predator. This one has probably been around for some time. If it hasn't bothered the cat yet it probably isn't going to.
Who knows what the one that replaces this one will do. Sometimes it is better to stick with what you have rather than take a chance with the replacement.

Train your cat to come in at night with food. I have 8 barn cats at my farm, they never leave the farm and all come dashing in right before dark when I holler the special "chows on" call. Just before dark is the only time they get fed, other than mice, voles, ground squirrels and bunnies they catch.

There are way more Yotes around this year than in years past and I need those mousers to stay alive and do their jobs!

greys usually aren't much threat to cats and are pretty shy because EVERY other predator takes them if they can. the only reason coyotes don't wipe out the greys like they do reds is because the greys can tree. bobs & large hawks/eagles will kill them when they get the chance. even coons will run them of from scavenging a carcass or gut pile.
make sure any small stock is secure & don't worry tpp much about it.

Okay thanks everyone..My cat is all I have left after my husband passed away and my dog was put to sleep so I am protective of him..

I feel better that he will be fine..I will try to train him to come in before dark with food or a special treat.

Even thought this doesn't seem to be a coyote I know we have them in our woods.
