Question How long should a new truck last?

Yes, I did it.

I caved in to the siren call of a good deal ($8200 off list) and bought a new GMC half-ton with a 4.8L. I haven't bought a new truck since 1997 (Ford F150) and that one is still going, albeit with a bit of rheumatiz. They tell me the new trucks are better, so a question...

With proper use, maintenance, and upkeep, 200,000 to 300,000 miles with no problem.

My son had a 1995 Chevy, 5.0L that had over 250,000 on it when a water pump problem caused it to run too hot on him. That eventually caused the engine to go. It hardly used any oil at all before that.

My 99 Suburban, 5.8L has 212,000, and still barely uses a quart between changes. I've had to change out door handles, window motors and regulators, and a couple of fuel pumps, but the drive train is still solid.

Don't know much about "new" trucks; the last new truck I bought was my Explorer in '97 with 3 miles on it! Still have it - has 265k miles on it and it's still going strong - original tranny and motor. We also have a 2k F150 with 118k miles that still runs like new, and a '95 GMC Suburban with 210k miles on it that's still running .. but I call it Eeyore, because when you hit the gas, I can hear Eeyore's voice in my head saying, "Ohhhhhh, do I haaaave to?" LOL! The Suburban is hubby's. I'm a Ford gal.

Congrats on the new GMC. Hope it holds up as well as the Fords! How long should a new truck last? - Homesteading Questions

P.S. Oops, sorry, make that 267k miles on the Exploder. ha ha. How long should a new truck last? - Homesteading Questions

I have an 04 Silverado 4wd with 115 on it have been looking to trade, tried one today, told the dealer, think I;ll keep the old one, why spend 15 or 16 thou when you dont have to, would rather get a new tractor with a loader.

I got a 2005 Silverado with 118,000 miles. Same battery, water pump, alternator, just normal wear. I usually keep them ten years, but with the prices nowadays, this maybe a 15 to 20 year truck.

We bought a brand new Dodge Ram 2500 Cummons Turbo diesel in 1995. It has nearly 200,000 miles on it, and it is finally broke in.

The whole time.

That varies depending upon where you live, where you park it, how you use it and how you maintain it. Last week I saw a beautiful Comanche parked downtown, and once a girl who lived at the beach wanted me to price out the whole top mechanism for her five year old convertible because it had rusted into one piece.

Your 97 is still going, I think your 11 will last a while.

Dh husband has a 1995 Chevy Silverado 4 by 4 with 175000 on it and it has just a little rust under the doors. It has never cost us a dime. DS#1 just bought a 2011 Chevy 4 by4, I am not sure that will last as long body wise.
