fixed saggy couch

my couch isn't high end, was second hand and the kids aren't easy on it. its a smaller type, bigger than a love seat but not a full couch. has 2 longish cushions that meet in the middle, and this is where it looks like a sink hole. its a sleeper so i think it still have enough holding it up but the foam is wearing and has left this indentation that isn't pleasant to see or sit on.

i had just gotten a few new sweatshirts from the thrift to replace my tattered looking ones. (at those prices, no reason i have to dress like a hobo!) i took my tattered holey shirts, folded them into a neat rectangle and stuffed them very neatly into the cushions thru the big zipper at the back. viola!! much less saggy looking! then, took some left over pieces of that foamy floor cushion stuff that has locking edges, put that under the center, under the cushions, and now that couch sits like new!! and all for the price of nuthin more than about 10 mins of time! and, got rid of those shirts!

thought maybe there's anotehr here with a saggy couch too.

A piece of plywood (under the cushions)which goes to both ends will hold up the middle also. See, what happens inside the sofa bottem, There are springs, usally coil type springs, attached to steel (in a good sofa), the springs are tied together with a jute type twine. It rots out over time and wears out also from the movement. The springs will usally flip over to the side, creating the hole. Of course the foam in cushions can deterioate, and be replaced with high denisity foam and covered with a poly fiber. The poly fiber helps in keeping air from direct contact with Foam. Air is very distructive to foam,as is light.

Saggy couch owner here too!
We had a nice Bassett brand sofa sleeper given to us this summer, looks
brand new,but it sags too.
For some reason, the mattress has been taken out of it,
we took some good but older blankets and put them in where the mattress should be, helped a lot.

We do the plywood Fix. Just cut a piece of plywood, stick it under the cushion and there you have it. We have used the same sheet of plywood for 30 years. We just keep getting old couches and sticking the plywood in there.......works great......

Glad you mentioned this. My loveseat is saggy. Now I remember that I want to try to stiffen it up with 3 inch foam under the cushions. I hope this works.

Well, I don't have a saggy couch; but I certainly have a saggy seat in the cab part of our 1978 pickup. I would like to fix it. Tried to find a new seat for it at junk yard, without luck. Even tried to find a new frame for the great engine..no luck there either without spending thousands. Never overhauled a truck seat before; so have no idea how to even start. (Wondering if the plywood and old clothing/blankets would work.)
