Grain mill question

We are looking for a grain mill to mill our own feed. We have a motor and can adapt to an old hand run mill.
Does anyone have any ideas on what to look for and where to look?
Thanks in advance,
Lisa

How much feed are you talking about? You might be better off to find a hammer mill than a conventional burr mill.

Grain mills typically produce flour. The Country Living Mill can do cracked grains.
There is info here www.organicwheatproducts.com

most of the mills i'm familiar with are antiques,,,,but bell bur mills are around for perhaps $200 or so and would crack grain or mill to course flour small scale....the last meadows stone mill i purchased (14 inch stones) was around 275 with just about all the external feed parts missing...(still good for cracking grains).

hammer mills are high speed crackers and more modern in design.

Cant remember the name, there are large burr mills meant for enough production for livestock feed. Used to have a picture of one mounted on back of a Massey Harris Pony tractor, powered by the tractor rather than a huge electric motor.

A small hand cranked mill intended to produce cracked grain or flour for human use is TOO SMALL.

Also most hand cranked mills were designed without bearings on shaft so they had practical limit of around 50rpm. You need a large mill that is engineered to be powered by motor or engine.

If you keep eye out, tractor powered hammer mill (there were smaller ones for small farms) would be better mousetrap...
