They look like they would work great for snow, but not so good on ice.

Just out of curiosity, why do you think they need them in the Ozarks? If you concerned about the ice storms then I would have to agree with Jim, you would be better off with chains.

I think I'd stick with chains. If I need um, I really need um, and I can put them on just about that fast.

Well They Would Be Cheaper Than Snow Tires. This Winter Is Supposed To Be A Bad One For Us.

SS, we routinely get ice here in the Ozarks. A couple of years back I was iced-in for nine days!

Thats why I think chains would be a better option. We used to drive on solid ice for 4 or 5 months out of the year and snow tires and contraptions like in the link dont do much for you.

Thanks everyone, I found a new pair of the "old school" Mastercraft Snow Tires and bought them. Guess I will get a pair of chains for last resort purposes. BTW Am watching snow birds (Juncos) outside the window.

I totally agree to what salmonslayer has to say. I would definitely stick to chains and I can put them as fast as someone had rightly pointed out.

Look like cheap plastic junk to me... If you have fender clearance enough, you want all steel chains with the V-bar cleats welded to them. If you dont have clearance, the cable chains do work, just not as well. And the cables dont last as long.

Course if you are thinking anything you wrap around or clamp to your tires is going to let you go 70mph down icy freeway, it isnt. Chains are for slow driving in emergency conditions.
