Peanut Butter Prices
I was reading about peanut butter prices fixing to go up, so I went last week and bought a few jars. Store brand was $5.79 for 2 lbs. Went back today and was going to get a few more. Now it's $7.79 for the same size jar! Glad I at least got a few.

I did some stocking up on peanut butter, too. They had Peter Pan brand for 2.08 per pound. Never tried that brand before, but it tastes just fine to me.

We've got a few jars in food storage, so haven't checked prices lately. But we also have a bucket of peanut butter powder in storage, which I'm sure glad we already have!

You know, peanut butter isn't something I use a lot of. But for the occasional grandkids visiting, or if we have a hunkering for peanut butter cookies, it's good to have on hand. I can't even imagine one jar running over 7.00!
I must be getting old, but I remember it being 2.00 per jar for store brand and it doesn't seem that long ago...

Back in the summer a local Wal Mart had peanut butter on clearance for $1 a jar. I stocked up. Glad I did!
I also bought a huge lot of raisins on Amazon a couple years ago. I still have a five gallon container of them in the freezer. Shouldn't have to buy raisins for many years!

You should visit the SEP subforum more often.... this news hit several weeks ago amongst 'insiders', and most of us have been able to stock up accordingly. Was in the store today, and still no increases... sure it's coming though....

As Texican said, visit SEP often...It(PB) has outrun beef on the price jumps. Coffee is a close second.

This is slightly off topic..... Texican - you asked recently about shelf life of home ground PNB. Smuckers told me there shelf life is 9 months open or not.

I'm glad you mentioned that.... noticed two weeks ago when I was restocking my pb supply, that none of the jars were dated past late 2012. I'm sure some of the long term storage companies can get 'long term' out of pb, but their prices are too much for me... and I eat it only occasionally anyways...

Just on a limited basis. We have a Vita Mix that would do it - I'm sure we did a batch years ago when we had Grid Electric.
I was pleased I could grind PB effectively for several sandwiches with a mortar and pestle. I transfered to a bowl and added water and honey to taste.

Well, I bought Mom a nut butter maker years ago, I believe the brand is Salton. The only problem is that the reason the PB is going up is the shortage of peanuts...it should figure that all peanut products should rise. Brittles, Snickers, M&Ms, canned and jared whole nuts...even those lil airplane packets!

Someone told me that a lot a growers are switching from peanuts to cotton. As a result, peanuts have gone from $450 a ton to $1150 a ton at the wholesale level.
