mulching perennials

I've been clearing weeds from my perennials. I have a couple sacks of bark mulch left. Is it wise to go ahead and add that to the beds now? I can see that the beds were mulched, but it's not thick anywhere. I'm in western NYS. Thanks. Sue

I prefer to mulch AFTER the ground has frozen. IF you are using the mulch for winter protection. I wonder if putting it down now for decorative purposes would just start it's decompostion faster?
