The Atwoods farm stores here in Okieland

Are selling pop in the nickel size bottles. I bought 2 6pks of Jolt cola and 2 bottles of Masons Root Beer. Anybody remember it. G R E A T Ice cold.

Anyway, although it has a metal cap just like the origionals, There twist off. What im wondering is, Can I use the bottles to make home brew sealing them with regular caps.

The jolt cola really works good keeping me going on the farm. Since im not drinking it like I used to, Im not even getting a buzz offa it. Its a whole lot cheaper than the 4hr shots u get here, there, and everywhere else.

When I was a kid and helped dad with the harvest, he would stop at the corner store (on the corner across from the mill), and get us each a nickle bottle of pop (cost a nickle then), and we would drink it while we waited in line to dump the grain.

I don't remember which flavor I got, but was probably either coke or root beer.

There was a different little store half a block from our house. Mom would let us save those bottles and paper sacks and we would take them back to the little store and in exchange for the refund money we would get some candies and treats. Loved it when we got enough to take back. Generally that was the only store bought candy we ever had.

If you are a soda fan --- check out pops on route 66. They are outside of Edmond. It is a tourist type place, good food (fried okra is yummy-- they fry it whole) & over 500 type of sodas, in glass bottles with metal lids. There house speacial is round barn rootbeer. Just down the road you can tour the round barn, it is pretty neat.

The breakfast is gross-- ordered biscuits & gravy one time -- nasty. But lunch & dinner is yummy.

FBB the twist offs are no good for recapping at least i've never been able to find anywhere that said you could get a good seal. need to find somebody that drinks corona beer and get em to save you the bottles. guy at the brew supply house here local tells me that they are some of the best for recapping.

I have used a few twist-off bottles for homebrew, with crown caps without a problem.
The crown cap crimps on the threads just fine. I've never lost any homebrew because of using them. Not even one. I don't use many threaded bottles. I've heard a couple guys say they would nopt seal well. But I never had a problem. I have enough without them, so I don't use 'em now very often.
I have 20 cases of recycled bottles of various kinds, that I like to keep full. I make a half dozen 5 gallon batches of homebrew each year, mostly beer, but a couple batches of Mead. I put all the Mead in Champagne bottles, mostly bought new. They take regular crown caps too. They are made of well-tempered glass, very strong.

On the Other Hand.... I have used some clear glass "Crush" bottles, from orange soda, and I had Problems...Big Time. Do Not Use them for Homebrew. The orange crush bottles did not hold the pressure well.
One Saturday morning, before I left for work, I was putting some homebrew in the fridge, expecting company visiting that evening. As I was carrying two or three bottles in each hand, the neck of one bottle sheared off, leaving a sharp, knife-like edge that deeply sliced my second finger. So, I went to the ER for a couple hours, that morning instead of work. I only lost an hour or two of overtime but........
We had another of the crush bottles shear off like that as we were opening it. But, by then we were wrapping them in a towel, for Safety. After that I never used, another "Crush" bottle.
Correction "They are great for soda........ I only use recycled Beer bottles, for beer."
