Newbie here

Hello everyone! I have been lurking for a long time now and finally decided to join! I only lurked due to lack of time to reply to all the stuff I wanted to !

To make a long story short, I am a native Texan, raised on a hobby farm of gardening, rabbits, chickens and retrained ex-race horses. Moved to Oklahoma and went to college there. (biology, vet med) I Met a Canadian living in Tulsa and got married. There we had our own 110 acres of hobby farm with horses, beef, chickens and goats.

We literally sold the farm and moved ourselves and two horses to Florida. We boarded the horses with a friend, bought a 52 foot sailboat and traveled the Caribbean, Central and South America. Came back to Florida this year, sold the boat and here we are full circle.... on 23 acres with horses, chickens, beef, and a huge garden.

And lets not forget my three spoiled yorkies who put up with all our craziness!

My husband and I are trying to get more and more self sufficient. It was easy on a boat in other countries! I didn't realize how difficult it would be to get back "into it" again. Nice to meet everyone and I hope I can learn and share with everyone.

Thanks for joining in and welcome to the forum. How was it easier to be more self sufficient in other countries?

It was easier in a sense because we had a water-maker, solar and wind power. I also grew a few things like herbs, tomatoes and peppers in small containers. I guess it's not THAT self sufficient when you look at the big scale it. I really ment we were "living green" instead. We were very conscious of water consumption, power usage and the amount of waste we generated. We also ate almost 100% organic. There is almost absolutely nothing as amazing as the farmers markets in the places I visited. You know for sure that when you bought meat or vegetables/fruits in those places, you were helping a family survive themselves.
Thank you for the welcome.

We did it for 6 1/2 years. 9 years total aboard. It would take a novel on here but I love to share my experience and stories! It really changed my entire outlook on so much in life.
