Opinions on the Kel-Tec sub 2000?
It is a pistol caliber carbine, and very light. Since it IS a pistol caliber(9mm/40sw), I will have to make sure I hit my target within range.
What is the opinion on these pistol chambered carbines?

The Kel-Tec SUB 2000 is a fun little gun for casual plinking, and that might just be the best reason to own one.
Other then blasting rabbits and squirrels there isn't much need for it, It give's you a bit more range then a pistol and a lot less range then a rifle.
In my experience you should buy a gun that you see a need for, otherwise you will end up with a bunch of iron that has no use except to show off to you're buddy's when they stop by ( BTW some times that's just enough of a reason :P)
But look at it like this,
1.) Is it a good all around hunting gun?
2.) can it be effectively used as a home defense weapon?
3.) And is the quality and reliability suited for your intended use?
A weapon is an investment that should be looked at as such.

Good point. Many of my friends have useless "show guns" for bragging purposes only.

Well the Kel tec has been touted as 100% reliable with brass cased ammo. I am NO expert when it comes to ballistics, but my understanding is that +P 9mm will take you out if you hit the vitals. Unless your wearing body armor. I also like a gun that the Girlfriend can shoot, and females usually like the lighter calibers.
Basically,I want a fun gun that family can shoot and have fun with, I am thinking of a KelTec with the rail option and a red dot sight. 9mm right now is alot cheaper than 40 s and w, and it can be configured to GLOCK magazines, which are superb. Also did I mention the price, the Kel carbine is very reasonable.

I am trying to find one of these in Beretta Mag form as a HD/homestead gun.
A carbine length firearm even in pistol caliber is very effective. A lot more than people will realize.
I teach permit to carry and defensive handgun classes and there are instructors who I have talked with and some of us agree, a handgun and a pistol caliber carbine with the same magazines makes for a more logical pair of firearms for a department than the current scheme of pistol and AR platforms.
ballistic wise, you can use a pistol and shoot to 100 yards and still do the job. I have used my 9mm to shoot at and puncture old 1 lb propane cylinders. Out to 100 yards too. It doesn't drop like you'd think it does. Put that into a carbine length barrel, I would not hesitate to try it to 200 yards easily.
Right there, you have covered your homestead.
And a Class III A or better vest is required to protect against a 9mm carbine This is way more than run of the mill body armor. That's battle field sized stuff. Not for rifle, but definitely carbines.

You are on the right track. I firmly believe too much is made of 'caliber' and not enough focus on marksmanship skills. 9mm ballistics and effectiveness has progressed significantly over the years and will ruin someones day with well placed hits at the reasonable distances most would encounter in an self defense situation. All kinds of effective self-defense specific 9mm rounds available these days, and lots of inexpensive practice/plinking rounds available also.
I have a Beretta Storm 9mm carbine that takes the mags from one of my Beretta sidearms. With an inexpensive red-dot on top it makes for an easy shooting, relatively inexpensive fun gun. It's very popular with the women as it's easy to shoot and quite accurate. And the keltec is quite a bit cheaper than the Storm.

It essentially fits the same niche as a 30 caliber carbine, with mags that can do double duty in your pistol.
Works well for people who are recoil shy or small of stature.

Here we go again, Personally I use a 45 as a carry weapon only had one gun fight and I won with a 32 acp. Have two friends that tried out the nine mm and they both lost, one it took 16 rds the other was hit 22 times both times incoming rounds were from police officers. The one hit 16 times lived for several hours after he was in the emergency room. The police needed larger weapons in both cases. He fired eleven rounds before he stopped firing. I do not care how good you are at punching holes in a paper target, in a defense situation you will not be able to strike matches at 100 yards you will be lucky if you can get your weapon to function. AND IT BETTER BE POWERFULL ENOUGH TO STOP YOUR THREAT WITH OUT HAVING TO HIT IT 16 to 22 times. But I did stop two armed felons with a 32 lots of dumb luck, In 53 years of concealed carry those three shots were the only ones I actually fired at anyone out side of actual combat situations. For plinking a 22, for serious practice use the weapon you carry or keep handy, and make it big enough for the job. I also teach weapons, and have in the past used them. My five foot wife carries a 45 auto and that all I got to say about that.

I'll step up and recommend the Sub2000
I like the 9mm carbine for things I might find trying to get in the chicken house at night.
A bit more of a sure stop than a .22 but won't kill the neighbor's cow a half mile away.
It works great on skunks, raccoons and tomcats.
The Kel Tec is light, easy to handle and accurate.
I can hit a pop bottle lid at 25 yards, a 20 oz bottle at 50 yards and a coffee can at 75 with the sights that came on it. Never tried it much further than that.
Don't forget, the extra barrel length will send that bullet downrange faster than a pistol will.
Anyway, I like mine, it does what I need it to and it does it well.
