So...... Got home from being gone for 3 days....
Went down to pick up pears off the ground for the pigs, and there is a large truck and trailer with 6 wrecked cars parked in my field!
Our neighbor has a bunch of dead cars on their place, so I'm assuming that he is having this company haul them off, but now I have this thing leaking oil and brake fluid from the smashed cars in my field. I dont have the fence up at that section yet, so I guess they figured it was ok to park there. No idea how long it's been there, or how long they plan on leaving it. Called the number on the truck and left a message, so hopefully they remove it quickly!

I work in risk management... make them pay for a disaster cleanup crew to come out and dispose of the contaminated soil and replace it with clean, appropriate soil.

Have the entire rig hauled off. I for one wouldn't tolerate that.

Are the keys in the truck? If so I would move it back onto the neighbors property. Or just haul the whole mess to the scrap yard.

WOW, I wouldn't want it on my property either and I understand wanting it off as soon as possible, But....I think the last 3 posts are a little overboard. Find out from the neighbor or company first, don't you think....James

Agree with this fully! If that were to happen to us we have friends in LE who'd most likely come oversee immediate towing... What ARE your neighbors thinking?

If it was parked on my property I have some neighbors that would have called zoning the second the driver stepped out of the cab. I'm not paying a fine because someone made a mistake.

Yep, that's why we currently live in a RURAL area and have just purchased a new home/property in another rural area. Zoning? Don't think so!

I have a neighbor who likes to park his rust bucket in anyone's driveway that is gone. Beside the fact it leaks oil all over the place and looks like a wreck it signals to everyone who is not home. He tried it with me and I told him it was getting ready to get towed. Have not had any more issues. I would start with the neighbor and let them know you are not happy. It is their issue to clean up their mess.

Unless you want the mess to become yours, start by calling the cops so the mess and the fact that it's not yours are documented immediately. Nobody has to get hauled down to the station, but having the police on hand can be very helpful if you want something done. Someone who'd ignore you might not want his truck impounded, you know?
I've got nothing against neighbors with dead cars (I had a guy next door to me with several. He didn't bother anyone and no one bothered him.), but if his dead cars are leaking, I'd make sure that my calls included whatever agency cares about the groundwater- your neighbor isn't simply enjoying his freedom by poisoning your well, even if he does it from his own land.

I'm with WIHH on this one... Leaking vehicles can effect your property value, the potability of your well water and whether or not your land can be used for organic purposes. (Not saying that you want to be certified organic, but I wouldn't want to let ANYONE else destroy my options!)

Trying to remedy that situation. Going to take time, unfortunately.

How much fluid do you believe was leaked onto your property? Did you see any leaked onto the flatbed that the cars are loaded on? Definately take pictures for evidence to be used against the hauling company.

You can have it towed at the owner's expense

Finally heard from the owner of the truck. He was good enough to come up to the house and apologize in person. He said he talked to our sitter sunday, and told her that the trailer broke a weld, so he had to leave it in our field for a couple days. He is moving the dead cars off it today, ads when he is done, I'm going down to make sure of dont have a bunch of broken glass or metal pieces laying around. There is leaking brake fluid and oil, but it's soaking into the wood of the trailer, and doesn't appear to be making it to the ground, so as long as he gets it gone right away and we dont have any rain to wash oil to the ground, then I'm ok. as soon as it's gone however, I'm putting in the fence on that section of field. We have had cars drive through there, a log truck use it as a turn around (deep ruts in your pasture are NOT fun! ) and people think that it's open for wandering and picking fruit. Getting the fence done is going to solve all of it.
I will say that we have had no issue with the neighbor, however he rents out a mobile home on his place, and the renters are occasionally a pain..... Speeding down their drive, which runs parallel to our property for 1500', trash thrown from windows, the above things.... The strangest was getting ready for work one morning and seeing cop cars everywhere. Apparently they got drunk, were walking home, and claimed someone jumped out of the bushes and stabbed one of them. I think they got in a fight......
