Thumbs up Cicada Killers vs. Wasps

i was able to observe a very cool aspect of nature during the past week or two. every now and again, i would leave the porch light on for the benefit of visitors and it attracted 10's of Cicada Killers. there is also a wasp nest, ironically one, that for whatever reason, survived two doses of pesticide from a spray can. the cicada killers would attack and eat the wasps! it was awesome! i observed this a week or two ago, and the killers managed to destroy half of the population in one night. the wasps continued to hatch out and repopulate. until the very last episode last night. last night my sister watched and said she actually saw the killers eating the wasps. i would assume that by now, they have made all the little babies in their solitary nests and fed them with prey. now i guess they still need to eat. at dusk today i noticed that there were only two or three wasps left on the nest. i left the light on again for company and i looked out to see lots of killers on the nest robbing the pupae and actually eating them!

what a cool way to get rid of wasps!

Personality, number and pain.

Cicada killers are doscile, European hornets can be agressive.

Cicada killers are solitary, European hornets are colony critters.

Cicada killers venom is not intended to cause pain, it is for imobilizing insects. European hornet venom is for pain.
