Craigslist - Livestock Stud Service

Hi! I am hoping that someone can help me out. Today, I posted an ad on Craigslist offering stud service; we have Nubian goats. I received an e-mail from someone telling me I was in violation of CL rules. I responded that it was my understanding that the "pet" rules on CL do not apply to livestock. This "gentleman" proceeded to write me a less-than-friendly, extremely long reply, informing me that I am incorrect. So, I am wondering if anyone here knows for sure what the rules are on CL regarding offering stud services with livestock animals. THANKS!

Regardless of the CL rules, studding out livestock without a comprehensive biosecurity and health plan is a poor decision.

The farm/garden category is for selling livestock. The community board is for rehoming pets. You're not selling livestock, you're providing a service, and there is a separate place for farm and garden services. But unless you're flagged and your post is removed, you're apparently not bothering anyone else. Ignore the gentleman, he can choose to flag you, but harassing you is absolutely against the craigslist rules. The rules are not the same in all markets, but those are the rules in "my" craigslist market. There is also a help message board you can post to and ask.

As long as the animals you're servicing are healthy looking, I don't see a problem providing stud service. I have done it for years, the goats I breed to that I don't own don't appear to have any special biosecurity measures in place, and nobody that I know has ever had a problem. Unless the goats you service have obvious open abscesses, there are few reasons to believe that a quicky is going to make your goats (or theirs) ill. Goats spend way more time in each other's vicinity at shows than in the breeding pen.

Pet sales are prohibited, pet stud services are prohibited. Livestock sales are allowed, so... Do check with your message board, but the rules do not say anything about livestock stud ads, only pets. If it got flagged off, I'd repost with a line saying these are livestock animals, not pets. Do not say anything about flagging as some people do searches looking for the word figuring anything that got flagged needs it again.

Also, consider the possibility that the "gentleman" might think you ought to be posting the stud services in the "services" category rather than the "for sale" category. Farriers get called on that pretty frequently, as do other equine professionals. However, anyone who gets their panties in such a self-righteous wad over that kind of thing and hurls abuse so indiscriminately probably isn't rational/logical enough to have a good reason for their behavior.

Stud service and frozen sperm are occasionally offered on cl here. I can't see what the problem would be with them being offered in the farm/garden category. It is a farm related post.

Livestock stud service ads are common in Farm & Garden on CL here. I don't see a problem with it, so I'd ignore them.

Unfortunately, Craigslist is a rich playground for people with serious control issues. They can strike out and flag someone and cause them grief, all anonymously and for no reason. Gives them a sense of power.
