Zenni-optical vs. EyeBuyDirect?

I got my glasses from Zenni optical yesterday and I don't like them. I wear progressives and the transition from far to near is too abrupt making mid-vision too fuzzy (like working on the computer right now). So I'm thinking of getting another pair from somewhere else. Has anyone used www.eyebuydirect.com? Their prices are similar to Zenni, but I've never heard of them. Or is there any other place you get quality progressives for under $100.00?

Got mine from Zenni & LOVE 'em. BUT-I have to scoot 'em down just a bit on my nose to be 'right'. Had this problem w/bifocal contacts yrs ago too, those can't be scooted down! The doc had to 'redo' those.

My daugters glasses all come from zenni. She is 11-- has only ever broken 1 pair. I let her pick as many as she wants when we order. Figure if she is going to have to wear glasses it should be an enjoyable experience for her. We have been ordering from them for 3 yrs now. She usually gets 10-12 pr when we order. That includes her sunglasses too. Sorry you don't like their glasses! I figure I was spending almost $200 a pr for DD, now we spend about $100-150 & she has a pair to match everything in her closet.

Have only ordered from Zenni. Never had a problem, but I don't order progressives. Have you contacted them?

Perhaps the frame is not big enough (from the top to the bottom of the lens, I mean) and so the transition must necessarily be abrupt?

Yes, I contacted them and they told me that is the way they are. I also took them by the optomotrist office, and she read them using their machine and the prescription was filled correctly. I can get a 50% return if I send them back, but they are fine for everything except the computer, so am keeping them and right now using my old ones on the computer. Still trying to decide whether to order another pair from Zenni or go with EyeBuyDirect. The latter will be about $20.00 more, but they have a couple of frames I really like and can't find at Zenni. The plus on the Zenni ones is the side distortion is minimal, which can be a problem on cheaper progressives.

Last visit, my eye doc told me to do what you are doing now Belfry. He said because of the differences between correcting my far vision, and what the bifocals corrected, that I should use my old glasses for the computer. He says that the computer is at a distance between what the two parts of my lenses correct .... he said it's something that happens when we get older darn him....

I bought a pair from 39dollarglasses.com and they were good but the frame broke after about two years. So I bought my last pair from goggles4u.com and they seem to be good as well. No problems with the lens either time (mine are just for reading, but I do require a special lens) but the frames aren't so sturdy feeling. Sorry I can't be of more help for your specific kind of glasses, but I thought I'd mention those two companies as well.

Oh yeah, don't you just love it when docs say things like that? At this point, I'm not sure I'm going to order another pair as using my old ones for the computer is working well. And the new ones are really fine for everything else.

Insurance pays for one pair for me so I got it from the local doc. Then I ordered pair from zenni, the kind with the clip on sunglasses. They were tough to read in so I leave them in the pickup and use them as sunglasses. But I will order from them again.

As many times as I have gotten new glasses with the prescription just a bit off, I would be scared to get the lazik surgery. You only get one shot there at getting it perfect. I'd hate to be stuck with weak glasses to correct expensive surgery eyes.

My glasses from Zenni Optical do their jobs well. As for your case, you’d better contact their customer service for help. My neighbor suffered the same problem and returned the glasses. Zenni checked and informed her of that they would remake the glasses at N/C. The new glasses she received were great. According to my experience with Zenni, I think they are quite reliable.

I really like my glasses from Zenni, as does gd. Hubby hated his, could see a tiny letter 'D' on the lens. I could see it too. Sent those back, and the next pair had the same thing. Took them to a local optical shop, and the woman said all progressive bi-focals have that, but usually you can't see it. He ended up getting a pair from Walmart, which cost way more. Guess you take your chances, but I'll certainly order from them again.

Could he see it while wearing them? I had some safety lens glasses with raised letters up near an outer corner, and couldn't see them while they were on.

There is a specific measurement that these online glasses outfits need to fill the script. My annual eye exam appointment is coming up in the next couple of months and I need to make sure and request that the doc includes that measurement on the script (he usually doesn't).

What is that measurement called again?

Thanks

Pupilary distance. It was listed on my prescription.

Zenni Optical offered fifty percent back if I returned them, but I decided to keep the glasses as they are OK for reading or distance. Just not for middle level vision (like working on the computer). I'm using my old glasses for computer work.
