Hydrofracturing a water well

Anyone have this done? Tell me about it please, the good, bad and ugly.

And yes, my well is carping out, it seems
Two opinions on it from well drillers and plumbers and they say this is the way to go.

Had an uncle drop a stick (might have been half a stick) of dynamite down his well one time. Got the water flowing in it. Of course this was strictly a DIY operation so you mileage may vary.

I had a hydrofracted well put in about 15 years ago. I thought it was pretty expensive at around $10K so I had some of my woods logged (select cut) to offset the cost. The upside is that it's the cleanest, sweetest water you'll probably ever drink.

We are plumbers, and we just recommended it to one of our customer's. He wanted more water flow and the only way to get it was to drill a complete new well, and that wouldn't be a guarantee or to hydrofrack it.

He called just on Wednesday to thank us for recommending it to him. He now has 3 times the water flow and he is so thrilled and chilled that he doesn't need a low water pressure switch with all of that water flow. And it cost him way less than drilling a new well

I've read an old story of how folks used to stick a shotgun barrel in the well and seal around it with rags. One or two shots were fired and the force of the blast would restore the flows from an old well. Never seen it done but it would be an inexpensive option. I'd go with steel shot if I was going to try it.

It only works if there is water but the well has sealed itself off. If there isn't water there it will not help. It does not change the water at all. All it does is open up the channels that let the water come in. We had a large well drilled 2000' deep, the flow was not great. (drilled into solid basalt) with 2 small zones that let water in. We knew we had a lot of water down there and Hydrofracing opened it up....James

Hydro seems to be the way to go. I don't know too much about it though as we aren't well drillers. Just country plumbers.
