Nice Neighbors
This thread is to point out that there can be nice neighbors, in part because of the nasty neighbor threads I see. I once had nasty neighbors, over 20 years ago. I moved and sold that land. It wasn't worth the heart ache.
So 20 years ago we bought where we are now. Our neighbors are right nice. Not all of them like each other but we get along with all of them and they're all civil to each other and do try to help everyone or at least leave each other alone. This is good.
So there can be nice neighbors and it was worth the move.
I am thankful for my neighbors.

Way to go, highlands, for this positive thread!
I've had both kinds and I truly appreciate the thoughtfulness of good neighbors, often expressed in subtle ways. They make life a pleasure

Our nearest neighbors are also our tenants at our rental house. They are great renters, and great neighbors. They pay on time, they don't have any pets to mess the place up, they do gardening and take great care of the place...mowing etc.
The rest of the neighbors don't always get along amongst themselves, but we are on good terms with all of them. We help each other out and always have a wave or smile when we pass.
The fact that my husband has his own water well pump installation/repair business, does backhoe work, as well as delivers gravel...at the least expensive prices in the area...might have something to do with it...but I like to think they'd all like us anyway.

The folks across the street from us have been very nice since we moved in. They invited us to the national night out block party, and have offered to take brush to the tree dump for us when they're heading that way anyway. Very friendly, but not to the point of nosy. It's nice. Kind of a new experiance for us.

Oh sorry, my little neighbor kid got me all rild up just a bit ago. He likes to come over when we are gone and borrow things. He thinks anythings up for grabs if no ones watching. I've had to have a talk with him before so I guess I'm gonna have to have another one with him.

I like the neighbors I have because we know each other by name, don't feel the need to regularly socialize as a group, are willing to watch each others property if asked otherwise we don't even look beyond our property lines ,we all lead our own lives without interference from each other and with just a phone call we can have a combat squad fielded if needed until the county patrol responds.

All my neighbors know this is the rule. You borrow it you tell me the next time you see me or call me and tell me that night. Most of them will see me and ask then. We all have things that are available to borrow and we all know to ask first except in an emergency. The other day asked to borrow a hose because he had a fire burning on his place. I asked him why wast time asking just get it and bring it back when through.

We have wonderful neighbours, nice neighbours, and quiet neighbours who don't bother anyone.
Every year or two someone has a neighbourhood party and we get to make a few more local friends.

We have good, helpful Neighbors. We don't visit a lot, but a couple will drop by, for a chat. They never come in the house, just want to stand out by the back of the pick-up, for a half hour or maybe an hour and chat about everything under the Sun. Most all of them get along just fine.
When we had my 70th Birthday party/open-house, we invited all the closer ones for a mile or two each way.....But no gifts allowed. They all dropped in for a bit, had a homebrew with us or coffee & cake. It was a good, friendly afternoon.

we do have some good ones too. they seem to be solid folks who aren't asking for anything but friendship. and I know dang well that if I had a huge need of something they would do their best to help. some have their 'oddness', but to me, long as it doesn't get too out there, I kinda like that! breaks things up, ya know?
and, one gal makes a fine cuppa tea, and has a great porch to drink it on! I really enjoy them.

I've had bad neighbors. It really makes you appreciate the good ones. They are worth their weight in gold.
We had a good neighbor, a single man who worked in heating and air conditioning. We invited him over one Sunday afternoon and were sitting on the porch. He said that he thought something was wrong with our AC. It had been running louder that day.
I told him I would call a service tech the next day. He insisted on getting his tools and taking a look. It was the blower. It was about to go bad and it was so hot that you couldn't touch it.
He insisted on calling a 24 hour supply house and getting another one. I went with him and bought it. He installed it (I helped of course) and he wouldn't take a dime for it.
He had been thinking about rewiring his boat house. The next evening when he came home I made sure he had 100 yard of romex, a case of Coronas and a bag of limes on his front porch.
Unfortunately he got married and moved away. (His wife didn't like living on a lake...because of the bugs). I sure do miss him...
