dump score!

hubs said we're goign to the dump today, oh yeah, I'm going too!

*hubs rolls eyes*. I got a new, heavy duty ironing board, (with a cord hooked to the cover, what's that?), a hunk of new carpet for a worktable top, one of those plastic floor protectors under chairs, and new silverware caddies for the dishwasher, mine have holes and the forks fall thru. wahoo! amazing the other stuff that was there that was still good.

I did notice tho., if its 'good stuff', the dumpers leave it placed nicely for someone else to take home.

Can you take items for free or is there a charge? My DH gets annoyed when I go with him to the dump because I always want to bring home treasures.

Is there a charge for you to take a load of your own stuff to the dump? Here we pay per the weight of the 'garbage' but the minimum charge is $10.

same here, pay per weight, with a min. charge. they dont' really seem to care if you take anything, they dont' look anyhow. there is only the guy at the gate to weigh you and then nobody else around.

hubs has told me before "we didn't come to shop!" *oh yes i did!*

There are signs all over our local landfill, you are not allowed to take anything from a dumpster. Kind of stupid if you ask me...

Here, we can just take the stuff. The good stuff is off to one side. You can't get into the dumpsters because they are compactors.

take it or leave it.

hi I'm new here but I had to put in my two cents. At our county landfill it is free to drop off trash. And a few times a year they have a Take It Or Leave It day.
We dropped off our perfectly good almond colored kitchen range, because our other appliances are stainless and black...and my sister gave me her two year old stainless range when she moved, because I puppysat for her...and two weeks turned into a year!
I tried selling it on craigslist, but everyone wanted me to deliver it. And I was only asking 25 dollars for it.

No taking from our dump site, but I notice the worker there has a nice pile of recycleable metal. Can't say I blame him for that.

Thank the lawyers. It used to be a bad week when I didn't come home from the dump with more stuff than I took there. Heavy duty extension cords, bookcases, firewood, lumber. My best haul was the day the guy next to me emptied a dozen or more boxes out of the back of his Volvo wagon -- he and his wife were moving to Atlanta and were trashing ALL of their winter clothes and gear. L.L. Bean parkas, sweaters, snowshoes, all sorts of stuff.

Then the town got worried about liability issues, thanks to a city councilor who was also a lawyer. The council got a legal opinion from the city attorney and the next thing we see is a big sign, No Dump Picking. And they enforce it.

Maybe we all need to come up with a "universal code" for really decent stuff that is headed for the dump, if no one buys it.
