Last 100 degree day today.

Supposedly today is suppose to be the last 100 degree day as we're suppose to get a cool front in and knock the temperature down in the 80's and 70's. It's gonna feel like we're living in Alaska since we're not use to temperatures that low. We just got through having 90 something days of 100 degree plus.

Well I don't know if it really got up to a 100 today as my youngest darling and I spent the day swimming and catching crawdads. We thought we better go as this might be our last chance to do any swimming for the year.

We had a great time. Using gigs, we caught a bucket about half full of crawdads and one big chub minnow. Afterwards we dug a little pit. Wrapped two potatoes in clay and laid them down inside the pit. Slightly covered the pit with gravel on the bank and built a fire on top.

While the fire was buring I cleaned our crawdads and scaled the fish. Just about the time we had all the crawdads cleaned the fire had burnt down to hot coals. I then placed a wire grill over the coals. I took some wooden skewer sticks, that I all ready had soaking, and first placed the fish on one, seasoned it, and placed it over the hot coals on the grill. Then we skewered a whole bunch of crawdads, seasoned them, and the placed them over the hot coals on the grill.

It didn't take long for the fish and crawdads to cook. We dug up the potatoes and knocked the hard clay off of the them and peeled them. Sprayed butter on them and a little salt. Thanked God for the wonderful time we had and chowed down. Fish, crawdads, and baked potato. Mmmm, Mmmm!

My daughter just absolutely loved the fish cooked over the grill and she just loved how we cooked everything. It was her first time roughing it. If you can say that was roughing it!

Sunday morning and it's already nice out (left for work at 4:30)! Hope there are no fires with all the wind today, but we have to take what we can get. Can't ask for cooler weather and rain!

We were at 64 at 6 tonight. That's supposed to be our high tomorrow. Wahoo!! time to get some more things planted in the greenhouse! Fall weather brings me a big surge of energy. We are having a ton of people over tomorrow for a BBQ - then school starts on Tues.

Same here, quite a bit cooler today, wish there was some rain now though.

Huge wildfire in Texas raging through Bastrop State park today, last word was 10,000 acres and growing..

My folks, my sis and her hubby might lose their homes tonight, only a few inches of rain since last October and the place is going up like a tinderbox.

My 81 yr old dad called to tell me he and mom, sis and her DH evacuated and are stating nearby.

It could get to my place, if it spreads out sideways from the wind. All that thick pine forest is dry as a match.

It was so hot here yesterday. It felt hotter than any day we've had all year. I planted a LOT of my fall garden over the last few days. Today we had a massive storm that dropped the temperature way down but I'm thinking it washed out all of my seeds as well. You win some, you lose some. Looking forward to it being much cooler this week but I don't think we've seen our last hot days. Many a hot, humid Septembers in my life.

OMG! It's so cool tonight. We've been over to nanny and papa's tonight and when we stepped out on the porch to leave it was so cool and crisp that I felt like taking the kids trick or treating. It just reminded me of Halloween so much with the moon shinning and cool wind blowing in our faces.

TxRider, I hope everything turns out alright for your family. I've been hearing some really bad reports on t.v. about it down there. We had a few huge fires up here in Oklahoma as well. Luckly here in the very N.E. corner where I live, we have had some rain and they finally removed us from the fire ban. One reason why I took my daughter to the creek and built a fire was because we've been under a fire ban for so long. We haven't gotten to have a whole lot of fun this summer with all this heat.

We just had out hottest August on record. Power bill was $75 more in August than July, but July is historically higher. We're looking for our first day under 100 tomorrow (97 forecast) for the first time in months.

I'm ok as I'm up in Dallas.

Looks like it burned 25k acres so far, they have tanker planes dumping on it now. Looks like half of Bastrop state park went up, and about 300 homes.

Stayed east of my place and my folks place I think. I can't raise them but all power was cut off to the area and their cell phones are likely dead or no signal. Come to think of it the cell towers likely burned up too.

I know we have several HT'ers in the area, I'm hoping they are all ok.

On the bright side it's really cool this morning, AC off, all the windows open, nice to not be 100 degrees before noon..
