"Tales From the Green Valley" is on youtube!!!

For you historic farm buffs, this BBC series has 5 people working a farm using the techniques from the 1600's!

Oh yes, I love this series. There are other shows also. "Victorian Farm" and also "Victorian Christmas". I have seen them all. I am hoping more come out soon. Chris

Oh I forgot to mention, just go to www.tvo.org and click on video, them type in Victorian Christmas or Victorian Farm, they should take you to some of the videos. I think there are 4 videos for each series. Chris

Already blasted through all 12 episodes (found it last week, but posted it in Families instead of here - glad someone else put it up!)

Looked for more stuff (I love Ruth Goodman!) and found A Tudor Feast. Tudor Feast was done between Green Valley and Victorian Farm. REALLY fascinating stuff. Just fuels my fantasy of wanting to spend a year studying at the British Museum for a year (camping out, having free run of the place at night... Yeah, I'm a Brit History freak).

Ruth & her co-stars also are in Edwardian Farm. Victorian Farm is what got me so interested in homesteading and trying things in "the old ways".

THANK YOU for letting us know about Tales from the Green Valley!!

ps: Forgot to mention "Victorian Pharmacy" is on YouTube also.

I was actually going to re-re-view Victorian Farm (like it better than Edwardian Farm and Victorian Pharmacy) when I saw that zodiacca had uploaded "Jacobean Farm" as well. You could have heard me whooping and hollering a mile away!

BTW, there are a couple of youtube vids of Ruth: one where she is interviewed at "Rally in the Valley" and another short one someone u/l'd b/c Ruth used a cuss word. Piffle. It was soto voce, very brief, and quite appropriate in the context. Some folk get excited over the silliest things.

I just love Ruth's enthusiasm for history. She reminds me of my Brit Lit professor from undergrad.

Totally agree with you Pony - Vic Farm is the best of them all. Didn't know about Jacobean Farm. Guess I'll be busy for the next couple days lol

zodiacca! Yes, that's where I found them all, as well as a Brit show called River Cottage. The presenter (Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall) moves away from the city to a (duh) cottage on the river and becomes a smallholder. Watching Vic Farm & River Cottage eventually brought me here to Homesteading Today.

Ruth is great and I saw the spot where she said the ------ word - big, fat, hairy deal! One can see bare butts & boobs all the time on UK tv, so what's the big diff?

Anyway, I feel I'm no longer all alone in the world of zodiacca! lol

I was astounded to discover that Victorian Farm Christmas should have been titled, "A Return to Victorian Farm at Christmas"!!! OH, boy!!!1!

There are three episodes, and zodiacca has them broken into 4 parts for each episode.

Didn't know what River Cottage is about until your post. THANKS! That will be next in the queue!

Went through all 12 eps of Tales from the Green Valley - in two days. Vic Farm is still the best one though...IMHO

Pony - did you watch any of the River Cottage shows yet? RC also has a web site/forum of which I belong to also. A lot of things are different just because it's the UK way, but still interesting to say the least. Watching RC puts me in a homesteading nesting mood..which means the house gets tidied up and I start cooking/baking things. lol

Thanks for posting these! I've never heard of any of these programs but they look good. I'll watch them when I get a chance

BTW, what's the deal with calling 'Peter' 'Fanz'? He's 'Peter' in all the other ____ Farm shows.

"Aaaaa!" lol Fonz - Fanz however it's spelled. He was always Peter in the other shows. Was "Tales..." the very 1st show and for some reason they decided to use 'Peter' in the following episodes?

River cottage looks good. It reminds me of, It Ain't Easy Being Green. The fist season of It Ain't Easy Being Green inspired me a lot.

FOnz may be his last name, or a nick name.

Bill, I think that farm is part of a heritage museum, so improvements they do aid an educational facility.
