Fish Idea

I have some Bass growing in a tank. They are doing very well. I'm thinking of putting them in a cage and putting that down in our stream. It never freezes. Think they would get enough feed just from the water flowing thru the cage?Would this be a good idea to raise any kind of fish?

You might want to check regulations...to avoid a hefty fine. Some states probably frown on that...if that matters to you. It sounds like a reasonable idea...good luck

In addition to any state regulations concerning Aquaculture (which is what you are proposing), you would still have to supplemental feed them. Bait fish which bass eat are not stupid and are not going to swim into your bass cages in enough quantity to support you fish without supplemental feeding.

I do not think your bass will get what they need to grow a decent size doing them this way. A Bass eats alot and has to to grow a decent size. I raised some in a aquariam until I got tired of trapping ALOT of small fish to feed them daily. Also if you have running water, running through the cage it will probably start clogging up with debree's that is in the water. If you will feed the fish alot of commercial feed you can get them big enough to eat. I personally feel that trying to raise Bass on a big scale will be tough---trying to raise alot of Bass is close to the top of "MY" list of fish that would be hard to raise to a good size in a cage. Good Luck.

predator species are not a good choice, omnivorous better but herbivore are best.

still need to feed regardless.
