I think we just had an earthquake

Not an everyday occurrence in Maryland, let me tell you. I was working at the computer and everything started to shake. It lasted less than a minute, but it was definitely noticeable. It wasn't strong enough to knock anything over, but the monitor had a noticeable swaying.

The other three times that I know of an earthquake in Maryland, I was in a car and never noticed them.

If there were, they weren't strong enough to be felt up here. I'm about 180 miles (driving distance) from the epicenter.

Apparently, it was felt here in NE Ohio, too...we didn't feel it but many others in our county did. I admit I've never been in an earthquake higher then 4.1...but it seem people around here (I'm not talking about people much closer to the epicenter) are a bit "over freaked out" over this. The 4.1 I remember we were only about 50 miles from the epicenter....so it was a "bigger" deal then being 400+ miles from a 5.something.

i was talking to a friend who was very near the center when it happened. i am in north carolina....his house is heavily damaged (large cracks in the walls and structure)....but he is ok.

took about six seconds for the sock wave to come through to my office in north carolina......can you imagine the power released....as a note there have been about ten quakes in north america in the past 60 minutes...most on the west coast.

We felt it here in Lancaster, PA. I would say it lasted 30 seconds or so, maybe a little longer.. I'm on the 2nd floor of an old building that was a school in the 1940, and would say the deflection was a good half inch or so..

I'm 50 miles south of Buffalo Ny and my house vibrated, before I realised what it was it was over 20-30 seconds.
I texted someone at 1.55 that I thought I just experienced a quake and at 2.01 it was on the news!!

They reported that 1 nuclear plant in VA was shut down for safety reasons, but I only heard that once on the radio..

Shut down as a precaution as it was close to the epicenter. However, no damage reported.

The epicenter was in Mineral, Virginia. The quake was four miles deep, according to the USGS.

I was sitting in the dentists office with my head against the wall and eyes closed trying to get relief from a horrible head ache I've had since about 11AM. I felt the slightest movement side to side, twice about 5 seconds apart, opened my eyes and looked to see if anyone else had felt it. No one else was looking around and then within a couple minutes CNN came on with the report of the quake. I thought something was going on in my head, guess not. Head ache left by 2:30 while I was getting my teeth cleaned. Wondering if it was connected to the quake somehow.
