Poly Pipe question

What does "FPT" mean as in Saddle Tee with 3/4 in. FPT.
http://www.sprinklerwarehouse.com/Bl...e-p/bs6000.htm

I need to tap into my 3/4in poly pipe water line and branch off to another 3/4" poly pipe line. Then I need to tap into that several times with risers and hose bibbs, ending with a riser to a hose bibb. Will this fitting work? What else do I need?

3/4 pipe thread. They could work depending on how you rise. I have never felt comfortable with saddles, personally I would cut and splice in a standard T with SS clamps.

Would the FPT accept standard PVC pipe fittings then?

FPT is Female Pipe Thread I believe. ANd yes, they work with PVC pipe, but you need additional adapter going from poly to PVC.

Cyngbaeld,

In my experience, most black polyethylene pipe is very hard. To get a good clamp on the pipe when you insert the T, you might want to consider heating the poly pipe a little bit with a propane torch to warm up / soften up the pipe. Otherwise, there's a good chance that you will never get the pipe clamped to the T without some leakage.

Also, as someone else mentioned, be sure to use stainless steel clamps. They are stronger and resist oxidation better than standard steel clamps.

Good luck on you project.

If you use the saddle fitting that you linked you would just need a 3/4" male pipe thread fitting that would screw into it (pvc, steel, copper, brass, etc). After rereading your OP, I would at least use a standard T for the original tap, and then switch to the saddles from then on if you really want to use them. Just an FYI I have seen alot of those type of saddle leak over time.

Thanks.
I have a really hard time getting the standard fittings to go on without leaking! LOL
