Anyone live in Ofuskee County, OK?

Does anyone here happen to live in or near Okfuskee County, OK? I have been looking at property in MO but I am also considering OK and, specifically, some land near Okemah.

I am looking at land to eventually live on, off-grid, where I can grow my own foods and try to be as self-sufficient as possible. It is just me with no kids or anyone else to take into consideration.

I'm wondering what type, if any, zoning laws/building codes exist in Okfuskee County or OK if state standards must be followed. Specifically, I am mostly interested in building construction and greywater zoning issues.

Many thanks and I see it is 104F down there today so tips for dealing with the summer heat would be appreciated as well.

Generally speaking, rural areas here are not zoned and have no building codes, but it depends on where it is.

You can google "zoning on Ofuskee County, OK" and you should be able to find several sources.

Best way to deal with the heat, is to come down here in Oct/Nov and move in. Then, by the time summer rolls around, youll be too poor to get away, and youll have to get used to it. How young a feller are ye?

Just turned 39 this year but probably wouldn't move down, full time, to wherever I decide to settle until I am at least 45-48.

Regarding grey water, the State is technically a zero discharge state but you only run afoul of the regs upon a complaint being filed. As long as the grey water is absorbed before it runs off your property it's doubtful anyone will ever know. State is too big and regulators are too few to "police" the place so about all they have time to do is chase complaints. Google "Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality" and spend a couple hours looking through their regs some rainy day. As to construction specs, as long as you don't settle in an incorporated area, cardboard box will work. NO statewide construction standards.

We can run down to the courthouse to see if the county has anything specific on the books. We live in Okemah, but will hopefully be building on land outside of town someday, so we'll eventually need to know ourselves. Any other specific questions?

We're curious what land you're looking at. We run cattle on a little over 1000 acres, so we might be neighbors!

As for the heat... don't work in the afternoon when it's like this! My husband keeps a remote desk job that he does each afternoon during the heat of the day, and ranch work only happens mornings and evenings.

Thanks for the reply Mama. I'm looking at 8.52 acres in a development about 15 miles SW of Okemah near Wetumka. It is off of OK-48 and E1180 Road.
