We got nailed last night.

Storm starts building about 7:00 last night. Big thunderheads and rumbling to the north. Went outside to enjoy the show. We seemed to be on the edge of the system, with clear skies to the south. These storms always come from the west or south around here...... or so I thought. Continuous rolling thunder, the sky lighting up, it was quite spectacular. Then I realized that it was headed right at us. Pretty soon it was raining and I retreated to the house. About that time we got slammed with an incredible north wind. Power flashed off and on a few times but we never lost power other than that. Turns out we were the lucky ones. Went to work this morning and saw a few large trees down, took a different route home and it was a real mess. Power crews still cleaning it up. Numerous large trees down, trees against a house, and it was evident that they had replaced a power pole. Drove past the north side of my woods, a few poplars down that I could see, nothing serious. Small grove of poplars in my pasture out in the open pretty much wiped out. Greatest loss was the large spruce tree next to the house. Thankfully it missed the house by inches. I'm going to miss that tree, it stopped a lot of wind from hitting the house in the winter. Lightning zapped my wife's Video Relay System (she is deaf).

Our storms come from the same place T, either W generally, or S sometimes. Usually SW

The worst storms here seem to hit from the W or SW also. Sometimes they fortunately just go south of us and miss us completely. Glad, beyond trees down, that you're OK tinknal!

Hi, I am new on here and haven't seen too many people from MN. I was north edge of the storm. No damage here but my Mom (about 5 miles away) had a tree top come down.

Watched that one on the radar, looked pretty spectactular. So far we've missed the bad stuff down here by New Ulm, tho had too much rain all spring. And too cool.

Now it's so hot & humid the clouds can't form here, they get squeezed up your way.

You know of a CPA that works up your way one day a week or so? Friendly guy. I suspect he has a lake home there & does work there to deduct it - he's a sharp guy.

I was in the basement and heard a freight train go through. The neighbors to the south got hit real bad. I lost two tree tops. The horse shed went for a ride, took out 20 feet of fence and is now laying upside down in the county ditch. My meat chicken coop is a tangled mess of wood and wire. All the trees blew over to the south and southeast, but the chicken coop and horse shed went to the north. All animals and people are fine.

We got a lot of rain (2 to3 inches), thunder, and lightening, but no wind. I felt sorry for the 100 or so campers at the Crosslake COE campground!

I live in the Aitkin area. I am so glad to see that everyone is OK. Sorry about the trees and property damage tho.

Tinknal, I hope it doesn't take to long for your wife's relay system to get back up. I know a little sign language, I work with a low functioning deaf student at school and also do home care for her, and my sister is an interpreter. Best of luck to you !

Hey northstitch, are you planning on attending the Butlers Dept. store auction on Friday? If so, maybe we'll meet you there.

Congratulations Tinknal, you just hit 12,000.

The rain never seems to hit us this summer. I watch the radar when we're forcasted to get some and it's like the parting of the waves. It'll be a solid mass of green with spots of yellow, orange, and red on the radar and then miraculously split and miss us. I think that everywhere within 5 or 10 miles of us has had plenty, but I'm having to water the garden.

We've got puddles in places I've never seen puddles in the 16 year I've lived here. The Rum river has been at levels all summer that you normally only see during the spring thaw. There's mushrooms growing in wide open fields that have no shade and there is moss starting to grow on houses, decks and other buildings. You'd think we lived in a rain forest. Many gardens, that don't have good drainage are not going to produce anything this year.
