DUH! It wasn't really broken

Twice now I went into a tizzy looking for repairs, when I should have gathered my wits instead.

1) Air conditioner remote control wouldn't work - changed, batteries, bought new, contacted repair service, on and on. Finally put the danged thing back in the drawer and - I had been trying to use the wrong one!

2) This morning the microwave acted like it didn't have enough power to work. Checked the utility company for brown outs, ran through repair options, no luck there, went to toss it for the landfill, when - ding ding ding - I disconnected it from the power strip and plugged it in directly - no problem, it was just the cheap (but they came in candy colors!) strip. On closer scrutiny, it turned out it wasn't even a real surge protector.

So, Douglas Adams, I miss you. Don't panic don't panic don't panic...

Wife couldnt get hair dryer to work.Rest the button on the wall socket...NOPE!

Pushed the button on the cord...NOPE

Wiggled the on off switch.....Nope.

Followed the cord to the plug.....didnt help it was the curling iron she plugged in ,not the hairdryer.
