I got a notice of my new 911 address June 6th. On road 4706.
July 8th my uncle that has been living with me at the same address got notice of his address on road E. 923 rd.

You need to talk to the local addressing coordinator. Call the non-emergency number for 911 in your area and ask how to get in touch with them. Good luck. I've got a 911 address that doesn't physically exist. Neither does the post office recognize it. However the state MVA accepts it.

I'm in the midst of 991 # discussions too

the county would like me to file a $400 fee to register the driveway - which doesn't exist - it's a farm laneway .. and then they will install the address sign once we make any needed improvements to the driveway

I have flatly refused to create a driveway on the laneway and suggested that they might like to install the number so that if someone is hurt on the working farm (just haying and cutting wood to date -but both use machinery that can kill people) the er services can find us ... so far it's been interesting

good luck figuring out where you live

You can buy one of those reflective road name signs for a lot less than $400. Just make sure it's on your property and not the county R/W. Make up a unique road name for your county, put the sign up and you're done. If you want to make it real official make sure it getsinto the 911 database by talking to the clerk responsible.

I went through the same thing a few years ago it all changed.
In my case it is the Fire Number that changed and I asked why and got an answer because of 9/11 ~! Oh Well that is life. Still was a pain changing all addresses around including my address on checks.

Off topic I know .- I live on the county line .When some teens got boozed up and rolled their car into the ditch ,911 argued with my wife about whose county they were closer to..............

Just got notice of 911. I live about 1/2 mile from the county road. My house is the last house, the first house is also my house, DD lives there. Been living here 33 years. I called and asked for my # since everone was getting one. He pulled it up on google and gave me an address and my DD, and sent me a letter with the #'s. Said had to be visible from both sides and reflective, 3 inch letters. About it, at least for now. ATT has been charging for 911 for two years. We have argued about it and no help. Said we had it through a town about 40 miles away! Oh well!

No call the PO. They are the ones issuing the addresses.

Not in WV. The addresses are based on road distances from intersections including private roads and county roads where the post office has no mail delivery. That is why my 911 address is not in the post office database.

As a first responder I just want to say whatever you do please mark your address visibly. The roads and addresses here are all mixed up and most people dont even put their street address on their mailboxes on the back roads and we have a heck of a time finding the locations sometimes.

In the middle of the night we are driving down roads with a search light trying to find some obscure address and it can really slow down our response. Around here if your old, poor, or infirm we will even come out and do it for you.

Does your Uncle own any property at another location?

I own several houses on the same road. This road is the Farm to Market road that is the extension of a city road, but about 200 yds out of town. Some of the houses have the town road name, some the FM Road name. Nobody (utilities, etc.) want to get it uniform. I simply quit worrying about it.

I'm wondering if the address is to one of his properties. Do any of them have a homestead on it?

I remember when we went from "Rural Route #2" to "23454 West 2100th Avenure" and we didn't even have to move!

RR #2 was so much easier.

When we moved here our # was 451, then the county started their 911 addresses and moved us across the road to 1368. Who am I to argue with our enlightened gov't?

How about 472976 E 923rd. There are not 472,976 people in this half of the state. Why do they need so many numbers?

The number usually relates more to location than population. Our location in the midwest is set using the entire county with east/west roads being numbered streets and avenues lettered on the north/south roads. However we do have the advantage of square legal boundaries as opposed to the metes and bounds legal mapping in some other parts of the US.
Even with all that our GPS unit cannot find our address. The unit wants us to be located a half mile south of where our house is. Go figure.

Put in my GPS address and the GPS will try to take you to my house via my neighbors ranch road that has locked gates at both ends of it. I guess if Google Earth can see the road its a public road. To make things worse the closest cross street to me is Hobson Lane, but GPS and 911 insist it is HOOSON Lane. So much for spelling. A elderly friend who lives on Hobson (aka Hooson) tried for 3 days to get a package delivered by Fedex before he called me and asked for help. Also his assigned house number is 300 Hooson and it is between 120 and 180 Hooson. Hooson/Hobson is only 1 block long. Hope he doesn't get sick. BTW, the two street signs placed at each corner of Hooson/Hobson by the county say HOBSON - Go Figure.
