post hole ?

One of my fence post holes has a huge rock about 1 foot down. Its where I need a post so I put it in and poured 1 bag of sacrete around it. After it sets up should I mix another batch and and bevel it up along the post to help support or is there another method of some sort?

Is it a corner or support post of some kind or is it just a line post? If it is a corner post I'd pour more mud. If it is a line post I would just tamp dirt around it.

Right next to the corner post. 80lbs of sacrete is level with the ground now.

I hate to say it but our place is rock just a few feet down everywhere you go and in order for a post to stick the rock has to be dug out more than a foot. sorry, it is a huge PIA and makes for some very, very slow fence building. next time we go at it we are renting a jackhammer.

I would put in another post and another H brace, make sure it is lined up good so it doesn't push that post sideways. I run the concrete above ground and slope it so the water runs off but it rains a lot in Oregon. I have found if the ground stays damp right at the concrete/wood transition it rots the post quickly....James

I have the same problem. I fenced in a 200 x 200 area for a pen this spring, and hit rock on 80% of the posts 18" to 2' down. I spent weeks chipping out limestone with a chipping hammer and digging bar. I started looking at the bright side. My posts will never lean, they are almost all concreted in 1-2' into that rock. I did however have blisters on blisters for 2 weeks.

Since its a corner post it that probably isn't going to work. If you just can't dig any deeper you might have to build a frame and pour a concrete corner.

rock

I had one here about a foot down couldn't go any farther...so...I gathered a bunch of wood and built me a good fire in the hole. After it had burned, long enough to build up a bunch of coals and get the rock really hot, I poured the hole full of cold water. the next morning the rock was brittle ,crumbly, and i busted it up with my spud bar. Removed it with my diggers and went on down with my hole..Used to just blast them, but dynamite is no longer easily obtained by farmers as it used to be..

Its next to the corner post and I'm surprized how well it has set up. I will add more sacrete to it, I'm glad I get a 10% discount at Lowes this post is costing me. Thanks everyone
