ebay question

I buy a few things off of ebay and it's always been a good sale so I gave positive feedback. I recently bought something used and the item wasn't as described. I didn't pay too much for what i won the auction at but still felt the item was misrepresented and put it in the feed back. The seller wrote me a message saying I shouldn't have done that as it hurts their feedback score. Isn't that what the feed back score is all about or is this just another thing that is faked?

I have been with ebay for many years and yes that is what feedback is for. I believe that the seller was wishing you had contacted them firs so that they could resolve the issue and make you happy instead of just giving negative feedback. At least that is the way I like to see it done. sisterpine

Well, yes and no. You should have e-mailed back to the seller as to what you found which you considered to have been in inaccurate/incomplete transaction. At least give them a chance to make it right. Did the seller include return rights?

Had a friend sell a vase over eBay which he said was aqua. Buyer immediately left negative feedback it was blue - and then demanded money back.

I try to over-describe, particular any damage.

Had one case where I used a $1 bill for sizing. Buyer wanted to know why the $1 bill wasn't included as it was in the photograph and the description didn't say it was for illustration purposes only. And I think they were serious.

I only do consignments for very close friends, and then the item is in my hot hands first so they don't change their mind.

Should the seller 'make it right' you can agree to a mutual withdrawal of feedback.

I sell things on ebay myself, and have been known to make a mistake or two along the way. I'd prefer to be given the chance to make it right before I get slammed.

But, you are right, that is what the feedback is for.

Yep. You should have contacted the seller first to see about resolving the problem. Any decent seller would and it really makes no difference whether they say that they accept returns or not, as a buyer you are in complete control.
Feedback is totally one sided on eBay and sellers are at the complete mercy of buyers. This means that buyers really need to be considerate and give the seller every chance to 'make things right' as a low DSR rating in any category can, literally, be fatal to the seller. eBay is kicking folks off everyday for as little as one or two low rating in one DSR category.

I quit selling on ebay a long time ago but, when I was selling, the few times I had trouble, I would go out of my way to make things right when people contacted me about a problem. I think the buyer should at least give the seller a chance to make things right before leaving neg feed back.

Now, after saying that, If you believe the seller was trying to mis-represent the item then that is your right to say so.

I agree with everyone else.

As a seller, it drives me absolutely insane to see something like "Sent the wrong color" show up in my feedback.

I mean, if you are done dealing with the seller, by all means leave the feedback they deserve.
But if you actually want some kind of resolution, email them first. It doesn't matter what the stated return policy is. Most sellers want their buyers to be happy.
But otherwise, they won't even know something is wrong!
