Question Barn kits?

Is there such a thing? My DH is wanting to build me a 20x20 (or around about) barn. While he isn't a carpenter he can build stuff BUT he just doesn't have the time! AT ALL! And things tend to not get completed........

Is there such a thing as a prefab barn? A kit we can order? A company we can have build it? REASONABLY PRICED?! We are just poor farmers. Any references? Suggestions?

OH! I will be using this as a milking barn, calf barn, supplies, etc.

THANK YOU!

I've seen them advertised up here - basically a little barn with a fabric roof. Never really looked into them as I suspect that they're not cheap. So, they are out there!

Check out Menards if you have them in your area. Dh just picked up some automated blueprints from some machine they have there. I guess they can print out the design you want and they will sell you the kit to build it..barns, garages, etc.

Not sure if Lowes and other places do this also.

Another lumberyard/home improvement place that sells them is Sutherlands. Once or twice a year they put them on sale pretty good.

You said "barn kit", but then said somebody to put it up. What you need to do is simply contact a pole building company, and get a price on a turnkey building. They advertise around here in every little trader paper, with prices for examples. ( such as 24x30 for "x" bucks, built on your level site )

By the way, NOBODY is born a carpenter, we all learn as we go.....and IMHO, the best way to improve your place is to do it yourself. Also, makes good economic sense, since paying someone else to do it, you have to go earn money, pay income/SS tax on it, and then pay for your construction. Doing it yourself, you cut out the govt hand in your pocket.

Well, I was going to recommend "Uncle Howard's Barn Kits" at:
www.uncle howards.com

But I see the BBB, Better Business Beureau, has his company under Review.
He does have Beautiful Plans, though

While my DH is capable of building it he really just doesn't have the time. At all. Not gonna happen. Would take years of little bits here and there before it was functional. Plus he really HATES building stuff. I don't want to ask that of him.

If we could get a barn kit or something maybe we could put it together......slowly. I would really just like to find something that someone else can set up without my DH having to stress about it.

Thanks for the tips so far. Need to do more research.

Where do you even find barn plans, designs, etc. ?

Shelter-kit.com makes some nice affordable house kits and I noticed they had a listing for barn kits too. They've been around awhile and have a good reputation although I have no personal experience.

I can't remember if I ran across this on this sight or another, but this is what I plan to do soon.

Wow! Pretty neat idea. I will have to see what DH thinks. Doesn't look too complicated. Of coarse to won't be anything near as nice but a roof over my head when I am milking would be a plus!

These are steel barns. Prices include delivery and assembly. This price list is for "Region 1" which includes Arkansas. I'm thinking about one myself.

I've been pricing barns from General Steel and Olympia. Both are significantly more expensive and do not include installation and both went to great length to show why they are higher quality than the competition.

I had not previously heard of USA Barns, thanks for the link. I like their prices and the fact that they do the install, but I don't understand why they don't give any more info than a photo and size in their price quote. There is nothing about the type of construction, materials used, quality control processes, etc.

If anyone has used them, I would love to hear about the experience.

My dad has put to gether the prefab buildings. He says they are a pain since the holes never line up, but other than that they arent too bad. Sometimes you just have to be creative.
