Gas/oil fuel in a gas only motor?

The new pushmower got filled with 'blue' gas today.
After it ran through that another tankful of clean gas was run through it.

So, are we going to be in trouble? Do I need to do something?

Teenagers. <grumble, grumble>

Thankfully I caught him on that 2nd tank fill.

A little too much oil in a four cycle is no biggie.
No oil in a 2 cycle is a very bad thing.

Should be fine.

Likely the worst is already over, namely the smell of the oil...lol I might clean the spark plug, but if it still runs fine I wouldn't worry.

Brand new? If anything, you might have eased the break-in. I might try that sometime.

Thanks you guys.

It was just the 1 tankful, so it shouldnt be too bad. About a quart of fuel.

I have taken a sharpie marker to the gas can too.
We had a good long talk about the differences in fuels. (Stuff I thought he already knew)

Kids, gah.

I have used mixed oil gas in my four strokes in a pinch. Never seemed to cause any problems.

Straight gas in a two stroke does not last very many minutes.

I burn my leftover gas from my chainsaw and weedeater in my tillers and lawn mowers quit frequently. At some point during the summer I'll fill the lawnmower or tiller with my leftover chainsaw gas and sometime during late fall I'll use up the weedeater gas in either the lawnmower or tiller. A small engine shop owner once told me to just use up the old gas from chainsaws and weedeaters in a lawnmower and always buy new gas for the new season. So I've been doing it that way ever since and nothing has happened to my lawnmowers or tillers yet.

Repeating in part of what I learned in a small engine overhaul class-----

Using too much oil in the mix of a 2 cycle engine will result in a carbon buildup which MAY lead to premature failure.

Similar for a 4 cycle engine although it would take many more tankfuls to achieve a problematic carbon buildup.

I agree with the others, no problem for the use of oil mixed fuel on occasion.

-I have a Lawn Boy 2 stroke and a Craftsman mower with a 3.5 Tecumseh. I use the mixed gas from the L.B. in my Craftsman. I use Opti-2 oil in the gas and it's mixed at probably 70 or 80:1. So even though it's not as heavy a mix as the standard 32:1 mix, I have no issues what-so-ever. For the Craftsman, it's basically an upper cylinder lube. I pulled the plug and checked it after a couple tanks and the plug still looks good. But NEVER EVER run straight gas in a 2 stroke engine. A $1.99 bottle of 2 stroke oil is WAY cheaper than a new, used, or rebuilt engine once it's ruined!

Matt
