Garden fencing question

I need to fence my garden because of deer. I was thinking electric wire. Any suggestions on how to configure it like how many strands, how high and how low. Maybe a couple cross rows inside the garden in case one jumps the perimeter.
Thanks.

I kept deer out of my garden with a 3' chicken wire fence and a single strand of electric about 4' high.

It's important to educate the deer to respect the fence by putting tinfoil smeared with peanut butter on it. You want to shock them really hard the first time they approach it.

for deer you need a 6' tall or better fence. Less than that and they will just jump it if the mood hits them.

I use 36" of 1" chicken wire on the bottom. For bunnies and other small visitors. With 42" 2"x4" wire for the top to stop the deer. The extra wire is put at the bottom and weighted down with stones.

It's not the best picture but you can get the idea.

All I use is a single stand of electric fencing about 3 feet off the ground.
The secret is though to move it about 2 maybe 3 times a week. You don't have to move it more than a foot or two (toward the garden or away) but just enough so they don't really get to know where it is.........
In fact I only move one garden side of the electric fence at a time, but I only have the fence on 3 sides of the garden - got tried of gettin' zapped goin into or out of the garden.

I use "t" posts and the clip on insulators. Two strands of stainless steel imbedded plastic lines. They come about two hundred feet from the barn electricity source. One strand at knee high(for the little ones) and one strand at about four and a half feet--chest high for mama deer. The charger is a dog sized charger...... seems to work for me, they veer over to the ladino clover instead. I don't grow sweet corn any more, so it might take more than that if I were.

Your results may vary, if you have GMO deer...........

We didn't use electricity at all. We put up a regular pasture fence (4 ft high & about 6" from ground); then about 6" above that we added 2x4 welded fencing (4 ft high). This has kept the deer out! This totals about 9 ft high!

Last year we only had the regular fencing and lost our entire vegetable garden to the deer .. all but our fruit trees, which we had encircled with 2x4 welded twice. This year we took down the wire around our fruit trees and muscadines; and all is well.

Have any old VHS tapes? I saw an article baout using them. Guy uses 2 strands streched tight between posts. It said that it makes a noise vibrating in the wind. Sure seems it would be very effective in OK.

Try a big mean outdoor dog. I never see deer anywhere near my property.
