Who do you insurance your mobile home with

I have Alstate and it just went up $174.00 a year! Asked agent and she said there are so many claims (not from me) that they have to raise rates. I am shopping but really don't know who to go with. Can anyone help with information on who they insure with? State Farm is out because I have an addition on it and they won't insure with an addition to the home. KY Farm Bureau would be about the same price as Alstate is with the increase.

You might want to check Foremost Insurance. I have a "mobile" with 5 additions and totally roofed over. It's spendy but the premium usually depend on your area/state and distance from the nearest fire station.

Good luck. When premiums went above 2% of value, we dropped insurance. You may be able to get partial coverage.

Insurance is state by state. I use Hochheim Insurance Co., which insures mainly rural property. From talking to others with Foremost, State Farm, etc., my premiums run 25% less than theirs for equivilent coverage.

State Farm insured our mobile with an addition. We are now with American Family.

I had a mobile up in Central Florida that my daughter lived in. It was insured through Triple A/Auto Club. I don't recall the premiums now but they were reasonable. They even paid off on roof damage from hurricane. So you might check to see if Triple A/Auto club is available in your area.

We have Formost and love it. When we had a super heavy snowstorm and the roof needed redone, they wrote us a check for 11K with no problem. Then, last fall, we had a water heater burst and ruin the floor and some of the walls, again, they came, they saw, they wrote a check. We think they are the best! We had enough money left over from the claim to redo the living room with hardwood. What a deal. Oh, and we live in a mobile too.

I got a quote minutes ago from Foremost and they are higher than Allstate by about $600.00 a year. I don't understand WHY. They always quote a higher replacement value than Allstate also.

Starjj, is an increase in your deductible a possibility? Perhaps you can get by with a larger deductible and lower your premium if you are unable to find an alternative to your current insurance provider.

That is one thing I am looking at I have $500.00 now but if I went to 1K it would lower it by $33 year not that much over a 12 month period and get this if I go with full replacement value it only increase by $17.00 a year. Right now I have actual cash value on it.

We live in a big double wide that's about 10.5 years old and use Foremost...$254 per quarter, no deductible.

We've been very pleased with Foremost. When a HUGE pine came down on my front porch back in 2009, they came out, assessed the damage, and wrote a VERY generous check on the spot for the porch and the power pole.

Well I don't undrstand it then. I got a quote today from Foremost and it was 1431.31 for a SINGLE wide with an addition also a 2 car garage and a small barn type add on to the garage. Tell me WHY mine would be so high then???? They are quoting value of 87,400 which to me is WAY too high but they claim that is what I need. How do I get them to quote less?

A LOT depends on the age and model of the mobile AND the state location. I jsut TOLD Foremost I only wanted enough insurance coverage to cover the mortagage amount due and owning as required by the bank and that is what I have. Nice thing is I lost my well pump to a lightening strike last month and worked with them on the phone on Tuesday and had check in hand the following Monday for the full amount to replance the pump, labor costs, several inside computer modems, router, and phones. Absolutely no hassels and no adjuster, just faxes the bill from the well man and they paid. BUT I live in a cheap state (Arkansas) and asked for the minimum coverage with a $500 deductable and my mobile is 20+ years old which makes a diffeence in premiumums.

I suspect that all insurance companies are going up on everything for everybody. That's just their standard business model. $10 here, $20 there and nobody notices.

I don't much like Foremost. Their mobile home insurance is very expensive for not much coverage. I had a claim and they paid it promptly and then immediately tripled my rates.

It's the only company that I've been able to find that will cover an older mobile home so they can charge whatever they like. $1600 a year for $20,000 coverage is what they wanted.

Gak. Those prices are insane!

We have a 1902 3200 sq ft victorian farmhouse with a pool, garage, shed, 30x30 barn and 12x30 run-in shed on three acres. The house at 280,000.xx, contents at 100,000.xx, the barn for 10,000.xx and coverage if any animal causes harm or someone is injured doing farm-type work (this is in addition to regular medical on the house) for a bit under 1200.xx a year.
We must be lucky.
This is with Farm Bureau, btw.
