Mold arggg

SO this has been a wet cool year for us here. I thought we were getting off pretty lucky considering the state of the rest of the US, until I discovered it... MOLD! Black, disgusting, sneeze inducing, headache causing MOLD!

So my question to you all is, how do I kill it? It appears there is 1 wall near my door where the mold might even be inside the wall, freaking disaster.

A 10% Chlorine solution should kill it

You'll have to find and stop the leak or anything else will just be wasting money and effort.

Bleach will definitely do it..and cheap to use. Just be sure to wear gloves if possible...and have ventiliation.

There is (was?) a leak right near my front door. So there's a section of wall about 4ft wide I may have to rip out. You guys think if I poke a few holes in the wall and spray a heavy bleach solution in there I'll do the trick? (Of course I'd turn off the power in the area just in case)

Here is some info that may help: http://www.cdc.gov/mold/stachy.htm#Q4

My suggestion (I did fungus and mold testing for years) is to rip out the wallboard after misting the surface to prevent mold spores from dispersing, and dispose of the wallboard. Clean the undersurface structure with soap and water, rinse, and then apply a bleach solution.

You must stop the moisture entering the area to prevent the problem from coming back. Mold is very difficult to get rid of as it can become dormant for a long time then come back to "life" with any addition of moisture.

+1

You don't have mold without moisture.

It may be a fact of life, if it appears on a surface, due to humidity, or splashed water.

If it's inside a wall, then you have a water leak (or way too much exesss humidity), that needs to be corrected at the same time, the mold is cleaned off.

Find the water leak and invest in a dehmudifier.

Our 140 year old basement is like a huge petri dish, sometimes.
