I need to ask a favor of anyone living in Florida....

....who lives near Ocala - Belleview, FL to be exact. I would like to bid on this jeep listed on Ebay ==> 1947 Willys Army Jeep

But, before I bid I would like to have someone take a look at it for me and give me thier general impression. I don't expect anyone to provide me with a mechanical evaluation, just need an assessment of its general condition. I hate the idea of investing without seeing. I need someone to be my eyes.

Thanks!

Sorry that I live too many miles away to help and that I don't know one end of a jeep from another. Try pm-ing Jill Costello...she lives in that area and is ex-military, so she'd be more helpful.

Yup, just got the PM... will do all we can & take pictures. BF is ex-marine, very mechanical, and I've overhauled a Humvee a time or two; roadside.

Oh my God! is this really happening? In this day and age can one human being really trust another one to this extent without fear of being misled or taken advantage of? Only on HT!

Jill, be careful of any "Thank you boxes" that might arrive in the mail. They could be filled with lukefisk!!

But VERY cool of you to go have a look-see!

If you are seriously looking for something along those lines and don't end up buying this one, you might wander over to steelsoldiers and see what you can find. It seems like all of the goodies I find to buy are located more to your end of the country than mine...

Also check out www.g503.com there are very many knowledgable people there. That is a nice looking M38. My Daily Driver is a 1960 CJ-5, I have a 1962 CJ-3B restoration project going on also. Someday I'll do up an M38-A1 or M38.

OK! The seller messaged me his phone number and we're on for tommorrow! Bringing my ex-marine BF with me and between the two of us, we'll see if she's all lipstick or if there's meat on those bones!

Thanks, Jill, for being such a good HT family member. Isn't it terrific to have family just about everywhere thanks to HT? You folks have taught me so much and make me feel secure in always knowing someone is there with the skills and knowledge when I need it. HT gives new meaning to "Global Warming."

We're on for 5:00pm....I have printed out the listing and will go over all the selling points with the seller. We'll bring the digitall camera and get as many shots as we can of under the hood, brake lines, drive shaft, tire tread, etc, etc and post them to a photobucket album...then, everyone that's mechanically inclined needs to look them over and post what you see on here for Cabin Fever....the auction ends in 1 day, 12 hours, so we all gotta do this quick!

Should have the link to the photobucket album on here by 7:30pm Eastern time....

OK! Here is the album, it has 19 photos and 2 videos (one just capturing the engine running with sound so you can hear the timing!

http://s34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...tello_/Willys/

Our general impression: It is a real one. It is in fantastic shape, has been properly restored, all the seller's claims are true, and he & his father do these restorations for fun; we got to view 8 other beautiful restorations in a spotelssly clean worksop and all in as detailed shape as this one or better.

The engine purrs like a kitten, she shifts beautifully, there's alot left on the clutch, brakes straight. The clutch has a squeak in the pedal; that is the ONLY thing we could fault it on.

The gas guage sometimes works, sometimes not; this is most likely a stuck float and an easy fix.

The lights blow a fuse every now and then; this sounds like a grounding issue.

The belts, hoses, wiring all new within we guess a year or less.

Bottom Line: This is really a Cherry!
