Angry People are so Frustrating!

Oh, I am so angry and frustrated. I just need to vent. We use the barter system to get our hay cut which has always worked well for us. I have a fabulous man that has all of the hay baling equipment and cut and bales about 40 acres for us in exchange for sharing the bales. He does the big round bales. This year I decided to save about 7 acres to make into square bales so I'd have some in the loft if I needed to feed any of my animals individually. So, I found a guy that was willing to come and cut and bale the other 7 acres under the same kind of deal. My 40 acres was done in about 3 days. The 7 acres is still sitting cut on the ground. The guy came on Sunday (Memorial day weekend) and dropped off his tractor and cutter. Ask me for a ride home. He came back Monday, cut for about an hour, then left. Came back on Tuesday and cut for about 2 hours, then left again. Didn't show up Wednesday or Thursday at all. Came back on Friday and cut the last 2 acres. I kept asking him "when will be getting this out of the field". Oh tomorrow was his answer. So Saturday he didn't come back either. Sunday morning after a WEEK of hot and dry weather we get a HUGE thunderstorm and rain. So....... my hay is ruined. It is crap. I called the guy yesterday and he tried to tell me it was "fine." I told him he had better NOT show back up at my place ever again.
My original guy is coming back to rolling the crappy hay into a few round bales that I can use as filler for the cattle or on the garden. I am so mad! Why do people tell you they can do something and then totally screw stuff up. This was an older guy, not some kid. Still I can't believe it.

Things like that are I don't get my property cut for hay anymore. I graze it, mow what doesn't get ate, and buy in hay. It got to the point it wasn't worth the headache.

I think every neighborhood has a hay guy like this. Ours is named Jeff. I don't do business with him, but every year he ends up leaving hay bales sit in a field all winter. I just stop and offer to clean it up and I get all my mulching hay for free. He was really on the ball last year though, it was already on a wagon! LOL Just backed up my truck and loaded it up.

Lots of times I've contracted people to do work...at pretty good money and they don't show up when they are supposed to or not at all. If they finally call or show up later, I usually tell them 'sorry' I got somebody else because when you didn't show up I figured you were too busy. I figure if they don't care enough to show up in the beginning, then they're not the guy for me.

Around here you can get any thing done if you don't mind the delay, Once fishing and hunting season are done and if you ask early enough in the year so long as it doesn't take more than the 3 days before the other season starts.

Cut hay that has been rained on can often be turned (quickly) and dried again and still be made into baled hay.

That's not an excuse for lazy behavior, but it's possible your hay isn't lost.

Did you check references before you made the deal with this guy? It's hard to imagine that he has customers who recommend him highly.

If this helps your feelings in any way, maybe it's just too heavy a job for the guy to do anymore. My dad used to bale just a few acres of hay, he said it was the most miserable back-breaking work he'd ever done.
