Outdoor Wood Furnace II

Don't want to hijack olemanrivers thread. Years ago MEN published plans for an owner built outdoor furnace. I think it was called a HAASHA or something like that. Small concrete block building with firebox and water tank and tubing and 30 tons of sand for thermal mass. Plans were still available 8-10 yrs ago but seem to have gone missing. Anybody here ever build one or know anybody who built one? Was the engineering sound? Did this thing work? Does anybody else remember it? or am I losing my mind?

I seem to remember one I don't know if it was MEN, it didn't use a pump. I think the "radiator" in the house had to be higher than the furnace.

Thought of more; the fellow lined the box with foam board wound garden hose thru it filled with sand. Is that the aticle? How about combining that with a rocket stove.

It's called a HAHSA Outdoor Wood Burner and the plans are still available at MEN It's plan #1835 http://www.motherearthnews.com/shopp...temnumber=1835

There are also several forums devoted to this homemade furnace if you search hahsa forum.

Hope this helps
