Batten down the hatches - again! - Homesteading Questions

I had to rescue a cucko marans that just hatched a batch of chicks. She was in the hay feeder about 1 large round bale off the ground. I guess today was the best day to bring them out. Some of the babies made it out of that hay feeder and some didn't. Luckily - I was out feeding to get ahead of the storm. I found her soaked to her pin feathers - tossed a towel over her and scooped up all babies that scattered and put them into my pocket. Then I RAN for the barn. She is now safely installed - literally - in a stall in the barn with her 8 babies! Our first hatching on the farm.

Missed me here, but went thru N. Kakamazoo Co.(tornado warning there) I got lots more water, unneeded, of course. How's come animals always get born in severe weather?

I'm sorry, I giggled at the mental image of you shoving chicks in your pockets and running out of the rain.

I'm glad they're all snug now, and good luck tonight with the storms!

Hey, I was giggling too. We were hammered pretty hard with rain and had lots of wind. It's passed now. I hear someone near Lansing lost their home with a suspected touchdown. The storms almost always go around us. South Bend and Benton Harbor got the hail- we're inbetween and just got the pounding rain. Didn't need it any more than George did - but we'll take it over hail. I just got the covering on the greenhouse!
