Posture police!

When working on small garden beds, such as flower beds or such, do you prefer to sit, stand, or kneel?

Now, I'm not talking acres here, I'm talking about weeding and planting and such in a small bed.

Maybe an odd question, but there's a family discussion going on about it, and I was curious as to some of your responses.

I prefer to sit on the edge of a raised bed or in the dirt near a regular flower bed. Sometimes I sit on a piece of old rug or some such.

I alternate between standing and squatting.

Mostly I shuffle along on my bum when I am hand weeding. In really dense areas I might even lie down so I can see better and reach further.

I have one of those rolling garden carts, generally I'm sitting on that. Otherwise squatting. A friend got me gardening stuff including a kneeling foam thing - I will never use it.

I'm on my hands and knees when weeding thick weeds or right around plants, otherwise I use a scuffle hoe.

My beds are large so I have to be able to get up and down and reach a long ways - which works best of me on my knees. But it's a delicate balance to make sure the neighbors don't get the full effect of my best side.

Depends on how my hip and back are feeling and the size of the weeds. Thistles that were hiding in the okra require you to stand.

I use any and all positions...my body can't stand to be in the same position for more than five or so minutes so I'm constantly changing.

Stand with a D hoe, bend over for some weeds or kneel for closer work.

I think you should just do what is comfortable for you. If someone is giving you grief about it, tell them the weeding is all theirs.

Most of it depends on how badly you've damaged yourself in the past.

I have raised beds specifically so I can stand.

Weeds not in the raised beds get weed whacked or hoed.

So true!!

I usually squat or crouch. If I'm working in the raised beds I'm very thankful for the edge to sit on.
