Progress halted

Last week we made great progress on the homestead. Got all of the mowing done, tended the raspberry and blueberries, and got cabin subfloor down and all the lumber to begin framing on site. We started clearing trails through the woods and burned alot of brush. Well I woke up last Thursday running a very high fever. I ended up staying in the hospital fouf days with pneumonia. I'm still very ill and found out today it is a fungal pneumonia which I probably acquired from the burning of the brush. I will probably be out of commission another week. Long story short use caution when burning brush.

Sorry for your illness and best wishes for a speedy recovery. Another thing to watch for is poison ivey that can tear you up when its burned. I am a volunteer fire fighter without a current sensitivity to poison ivey but we fought a brush fire a month or so ago and one of the guys was really really affected by the burning poison ivey.

I keep telling people to beware of the free mulch from the power companies. I chipped and moved some without a respirator mask and was laid up for a couple of months.
PLEASE - just because dead trees and greenery is "natural" that DOESN'T mean it is safe. This is just another example.

Hope you start feeling better. We cleaned out brush and burned and unfortunately it included some poison ivy....long story short: dumb, dumb, dumb!

When you do get better, I hope you include pictures of the progress of your homestead as it sounds interesting!

Get well soon. We were fixed on outside burning, its not allowed no more. So now to get rid of (stuff) it must be hauled to the dump where they charge a minimum of $17, or burn it in a woodstove. Of coarse illegal burnings go on all the time.

I wish to thank everyone for the prayers, thoughts, and advice. we are still waiting on the final culture results so they can give me the proper drug to combat the infection. I am a Paramedic so I am exposed to a variety of bugs every day but I am almost certain I caught it by burning brush. I will no doubt be more cautious to stay out of the smoke in the future.
