PetArmor Flea Control

Anybody use PetArmor flea control, the generic Frontline Plus, sold at Walmart and other places?

Supposed to contain 9.8% fipronil, same as FL+.

We dosed our dogs, a week ago, but still see fleas running around.

I know this is a very bad year for fleas/ticks, but using FL+ in the past, seemd to do the job.

PetArmor is about 50% the cost.

You'll still see them for a while.

They jump off the animals after they feed, and lay lots of eggs.

They have to stay on the dogs for a while before it will kill them, and new ones will be hatching too.

Nothing will keep a dog totally free of fleas if it goes outside at all

Question for the OP...Is this their first treatment of the year? I have three dogs. I put Frontline on all of them on 4/27. I saw recent ads for Pet Armor and would love to save half the money if it works. If you have given your dogs flea meds prior to Pet Armor and you're seeing fleas, I'd like to hear about it. If this is your first treatment for this year, I'd say maybe a few slow to kill fleas might be acceptable.

Buy your Frontline off of Ebay - less than PetArmor. That said, we just switched to Advantage II (also off of Ebay). Buy the Largest Dog size and use a syringe to dose smaller animals. Largest dog size is 4 ml. Med dog is 2 ml. small dog about 1-1.5 ml. Cats 1/2 ml. ML's= CC's

the pet armor + is EXACTLY the same as frontine plus down to the inactive ingredients...

the problem however is parisites are becomming reisistant, so if the pet armor isnt working after 3 months, neither will frontline plus, you need to switch to different active ingredients.

we had that problem here, used frontline + for years with no problems then one year we started seeing fleas, switched to k9 advantix and fea problem solved, if frontline is the topica of choice for your area try advantix ect..

persoanlly i dont buy off ebay, too many cases of expired lots being sold...
i get mine from drsfosterandsmith

Had to take one of our dogs to the vet this morning and asked a vet tech about the Pet Armor product. She has all kinds of training and experience so I trust her word.

She said that the PA isn't as effective as the FL because while the active ingredient is the same in both, the carrier material is still patented to Merial and it doesn't expire until 2016. In the meantime, they are using a different carrier that isn't as effective at spreading the active ingredient over the animal's body. She said it had only been tried one year in Europe before it was released here and there is no data available as yet regarding illness in animals from the product remaining concentrated in one spot rather than dispersed. She didn't mention resistence although it is a problem, just not the point of my question to her.

I wrote a big article on flea control. In a nutshell, use diatomaceous earth the right way.

I wonder if it would work beter if it were mixed with emu oil?

DE will work, but isn't a real good application for house-dogs. IMHO, of course.

Since writing those two articles, I have heard from many people that run (or are involved in running) cat shelters and dog shelters. For the cats, I have heard where DE is a complete fix. They went from flea nightmare to zero fleas using nothing but diatomaceous earth.

With the dog shelters, I have heard that used nothing but diatomaceous earth and the snack mentioned on the flea control article.

I'm beginning to wonder, if this is not the case.

The dogs are still loaded with fleas and it's been almost 3 weeks

I bathe with D- limonene shampoo which is also very helpful, and it smells great!

Went to the vet, he recommended Frontline for ticks which are very heavy around here. He said it doesn't work well on fleas when it gets real bad. Recommended something I think comes in tablet form. I"m going from memory of what my wife told me.
Just asked her and she said Comfortis is what he recommended when the fleas start.

Start a month earlier next year. Nip 'em in the bud. Dont' wait until you have a visible problem to treat.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

And FWIW, I have found Advantage to be #1 in quick killing. It kills the fleas before they can feed and/or lay eggs. But you still have to use it religiously every month in any animal that goes outside.

Last I heard, there was no documentation of any resistance to Frontline or Advantage. There IS a significant problem sometimes with GAPS IN TREATMENT that lead to failure to control fleas. And non-pet animals coming onto property are always going to be bringin new fleas in.
