Where to find news on-line?

I love to keep up with what is going on in the world but I want to find an on-line source because I am tired of the television "news shows". I hope it is ok to ask this here. I was not sure where to put it. I am not asking for right or left leaning news just the truth. Any sources?

You might try: News & Java Has clips and stories from all the majors. Ignore the headers if you wish, and scroll down.

Every news source has bias. The "truth" is that somewhere within those biases, a more accurate story emerges, but you cannot expect a single "truth" or any publication to be truthful all the time.

There is value in monitoring even some of the extremist sources. Rense.com is 90% of the time off the wall wacko "news". However, in that other 10%, you may find an assessment of a news item that mainstream media dares not to print, but has great insight.

In foreign affairs, a combo of the BBC, Pravda (yes that Pravda), an Indian source, as well as one or more of the major U.S. sources will allow a broader view. The trick is to get all the different arguments in the same virtual room and start eliminating the obvious biases and finding points of confluence.

Local news can be opaque. Cover stories and deflection from issues that affect advertisers or major personalities are common. In that case, the extremist views may be your only glimpse into the "truth" (whatever that means). BUT... you have to read both sides of the extremist views and not slack off and just read what feels good.

I used to be a real news follower. I find that most of the news doesn't lead anywhere, is not something easily affected by individuals, and is a waste of time. It has become worse with the internet, any every person with a keyboard thinking he or she is a Pulitzer level journalist. TV news is a mouthpiece for government press releases and a few human interest stories. The real news, like Walter used to report, can be dreadfully dull at times.

We use MSNBC online http://www.msnbc.msn.com/ and listen to BBC World News on the radio: http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/pr...es/index.shtml, which our favorite radio network, Wisconsin Public Radio's Ideas Network, runs from 11:30 PM to 6 AM overnight.

Our radios at home, in the shop, and in the vehicles are usually tuned to WPR's Ideas Network, which is mostly talk radio and covers a lot of world, national, and local news. See http://www.wpr.org/ for more details. I can listen to WPR online at work, too.

I've always heard that French and Indian news outlets have very good coverage of the Mideast in particular.

I watch Fox news with some CNN thrown in and I listen or watch others like BBC and listen to some talk radio. I am just so tired of all the crap and would not even listen to any of them if I didn't feel like I need to be informed. Maybe the problem is that I watch and listen to much and it gets to be overwhelming. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Google. Upper left corner has a news option. It's uncluttered. I like it.

We use wall street journal online and foreign news outlets, too. Like Deutsche Welle (http://www.dw-world.de/dw/0,,1429,00.html) for international news. Find them quite objective... must be the distance.

Few I check in on now and then. Not sayin you have to like them and not sayin to anyone else you have to agree with them. http://rfdamerica.com/ http://www.prisonplanet.com/ http://blacklistednews.com/ http://www.newswithviews.com/ IMO all media is taken with a grain of salt. They are liars with an agenda to further their own view. No such thing anymore as unbiasly "reporting" the news.

Yahoo news collects news from multiple sources. Reuters, Ap, WSJ, etc. It also has a local news section that carries stories from local sources.

There is also news.google.com. You can read "local" news from many countries around the world.

I was going to say the same, I find Yahoo to have an interesting mix of news, and you can easily go beteen national or local stuff. Perhaps not the deepest news, but gets you the day's highlights and the many different sources they use helps keep a person centered a bit.

If you go to google and type in the word news and hit enter (rather than clicking directly on the news option at the top of the page) you will get pages and pages of online news sources from all over the world. That will give you more choices to look at and decide which sources you want to view on a regular basis.

You can also set your google news page up anyway you want... you can customize your settings to get news on any subject imaginable. Literally.

Can also get email alerts on any subject. For a while I had a thing on Katla, the volcano... I wanted to know the moment it blew it's top.... so, anytime anywhere a story had the words "Katla" in it, I got an email alert. Had to drop "katla" as some idjit named their racehorse katla and I was getting 'alerts' several times a day on false alarms.

Seriously, Google news covers everything... GF has a section on dairy goats... and amazingly, there's regular dairy goat news out there...
