Unhappy My dog died unexpectedly today ):

I was in the yard talking to the couple who live further out our road when suddenly Otis made this kind of moan/growl/ howl sound. He laid down on his belly and threw his head back over his shoulders. I was maybe 15 ft away. I ran over to him and his pupils were completely blown. He took 3 more breaths and he was just gone. He was only 5 yrs old and such a good boy. We sure do miss him, I just can't sleep now. It was so fast its unreal. Thanks for listening, Kathy

Wow, sudden, and so sorry. But actually better for the dog, the suddeness. Rejoice in that he did not suffer.

Sorry for your loss. As someone else mentioned be grateful your pet's end came so suddenly and without suffering. I disagree, thou with the suggestion to replace him asap. This is simply my opinion and you will know if and when the time comes for you to find a new faithful friend, but when my beloved Gordon setter died, it was perhaps five or six years before I was ready to have another dog. Savor the time you had with your pet.

I am so sorry, Here's Rainbow Bridge:

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm Very sorry. My last Rottie, Magic died in my arms the same way. I let him in the door and he sat down for a second with a strange look on his face, I asked him if he was Ok, he walked a couple of steps an layed down. I sat down and held his head and told him how he was such a good dog and how much I love him. I felt his heart, it was beating so I don't know for sure what happened. I'm glad I was there for him.

Kathy, I'm sorry to hear of your dog's passing. I've had many pets pass away over the years. They are like family.

At least on one occasion, we had our dog pass away suddenly. The vet determined he was poisoned. Within a week, we had our garage broken into. I'd hate to think someone would murder an animal just to get some tools and an old bicycle!
