Couple of auctions finds.
Hi, I got this HUGE pot for only 12.00. Then i got 3 of these canning jars. I don't know anything about them other than they look cool. Does anyone here know how old they are, who made them? I posted this in preserving the harvest too, thought some of those who only read here might recognize them too. Thanks!
Close up of the jars. I love the design on them, would love to know more about them.

Jars such as that were most likely sold with something in them, such as coffee at one time. I am not saying that they were, but may have been. Is there a name on the bottom, maybe? I have a book on fruit jars, but don't think these are canning jars. Hope this helps, let me know if I can help.

I have both these jars which I bought when an elderly neighbor sold her home & moved.
Quart jar with the grid pattern has a 2 <0> 3 , then a 2 directly under the zero which is more of an oval shaped. Symbols are on a smooth pattern free bottom.
The diamond patterned jar has a ruff bottom with 2 <0> 4 and a cross that has a closed loop at the top directly under the oval shaped zero. This jar is shorter & thicker around the center than what you have pictured.
Another jars a the letter K inside a keystone box (like the emblem for PA.).
I have 5 in total one two the same height the other three shorter. They all have zinc rings on when I bought them but that doesn't mean anything really.
I use them ato keep dehydrated herbs like dill, parsley, tarragon handy on the counter. I put white plastic caps on to match my kitchen decor.
More than likely the smooth square area on these jars held a commerical label as braggscoboy wrote.
Hubby's home so I'll see if I can get him to help me post a pic of my set.

Jars
I'm pretty sure they are peanut butter jars. The coffee ones are bigger.

Here are pics of the bottoms if that helps any.
number 1

No writing at all.
number 2

It is hard to read, so I underlined the writing in black in photo shop.
It says ball at the bottom and the numbers 5030 at the top.
number 3

It has a K in the center P-1141 at the top and a 4 at the bottom.

Although one would think that the checked pattern would be for motor oil, it was not since they were smooth. They were commercial jars for fruits and vegetables. One side always had a smooth area for the label. They were made to same standards as regular canning jars and were intended for reuse. As noted, one was made by Ball. I've seen the K in the keystone but can't recall offhand which site lists them. I don't have any diamond pattern jars but have both quarts and pints in the checkered pattern. And I do still use them!
Coffee jars were shorter and wider and quite often took a #63 lid. Most peanut butter jars were usually round and either smooth, tapered, or embossed with the brand name.

None of my jars have Ball writen on the bottom. But I think one might have Kerr written on the bottom (peppled surface). But these jars could have been handed off to another jar producer for production.

My MIL gave me a bunch of those jars. She said they had mustard in them. I couldn't imagine mustard coming in such large jars!

I actually have that huge pot and a lid too. I use it for making big batches of soup to freeze in the fall for winter use. It's also great for making sauces.

I don't know about the jars but that looks like a great stock pot for only $12.
Congrats on the find.

With the K in the center it is made by Knox Mason, machine made and value at 2.00 to 3.00 each. Made in clear only and in 3 sizes. Hope this helps.
