Liquid fertilizer

I ran across about 50 gal of a liquid fertilizer at a auction---it was with other things. It is used with hydroponic growing. I was looking on the jugs and its numbers are 1-5-7 on some and 1-6-8 on others. I was wondering if I could mix this with water and and "feed" my garden plants by pouring it on the dirt beside the plants. It states to mix so much in so many gallons of water for hydroponic. Anyone got any thoughts on this. Just hate to throw it away. I can add some nitrogen being it is so low. Thanks!!

You could also mix it in your compost.

I would expect hydroponic fert would need to be very low in salt content, which is 'the' issue with using it on growing plants.

As well the numbers on it are very low, so it shouldn't burn your plants at all.

So I'd sure do as you are thinking, I can't see how it would hurt at all. You really wouldn't need to mix with water, for what the numbers are.

I put it on with a sprinkler can, diluted half and half, doesn't hurt if it gets on the plant itself. It works well for me as I use a lot of compost with nitrogen. It is not enough nitrogen for heavy feeders by itself. The water in Hydroponics has other sources of nitrogen....James

Sure, you can use it. You'll need an additional source for nitrogen.
