Open Pollinated Corn

Hi there, We are looking for a good source for open pollinated seed corn in our region. We live in Western Kentucky, in Hopkinsville area. We are raising pigs, chickens, ducks and soon rabbits all on pasture. We are wanting our corn as a source of feed for our livestock and ourselves.

Thank you for any help!

I grow Leaming corn. It's a good yellow field corn that was commonly planted just about everywhere including Kentucky.

Try this company. They only sell OP corn. I have used them and liked the results.

Bloody Butcher is a good open pollinated corn for me in Ohio. This year I ordered a new one from Fedco, it adjusts to your own growing climate, called Early Riser.

I hope it works. I have had good results with Fedco and trust them. The soil is too wet to plant so far. But I will try it this year. Report will follow.

I would like an OP corn (yellow) as well suitable for human consumption (fresh eating as well as creating meal). Is there any "one" OP corn that will do both? I'm in Virginia zone 7.

I like Yellow Dent. I'm pretty sure Shumway has it, and you can probably find it at your local feed and seed store.

Shumway has listed 9 different OP field/dent corns this year with excellent descriptions of each variety and some are very tasty fresh and dried for meal as well as being good for feed. I'm ordering their smaller sample pack this year with all 9 varieties. I will save the seed from the ones that do best here and are tasty also.
